Feat of Clay (Men of London Book 4) Kindle Edition

4.4 out of 5 stars 115 ratings

Imprisoned and tortured, undercover cop Tate Williams will find redemption in the arms of his boyhood friend, now lover, former SAS soldier Clay Mortimer.

TWO MEN.
TORN. TORTURED. LOVED.
Though they went their separate ways, Tate Williams and Clay Mortimer have been crazy about each other since their school days. Clay went into the SAS. Tate became a cop. Neither mentioned their attraction to the other. Both sought out danger. Both found it.

Imprisoned and shot in an undercover assignment gone wrong, Tate somehow survived…and found his way back into Clay’s arms. His old friend is now the owner of an elite investigation agency and everything any man could want: patient, handsome, commanding. And Clay knows what it takes to survive. But Tate can’t bring himself to share all his secrets, nightmares that force him to rebel against everything. He finds solace from his past as a graffiti artist, a childhood passion, but his demons drive away all who might care for him. Only when he faces that past—and learns that everyone has tasted despair—can the two men truly be brothers-in-arms…and more.

The fourth book in the wonderful Men of London series sees two alpha heroes battling to keep their relationship going. Tate is suffering from PTSD after his undercover job goes horrifically wrong. Clay is a former member of the SAS who now owns his own detective agency and is Tate's best friend and now lover. This is their love story and is truly an emotional roller coaster through their ups and downs, trials and tribulations, quarrels and sexy make-ups. This book is beautifully written with lots of angles that keep the story interesting and I found it to be a real page turner. This was definitely 'hotter' than Susan Mac Nicols previous books but only relevant to the couple and not gratuitous in my opinion. The side plotlines were intriguing and I feel like there are characters there waiting for their own Men of London story which I would love to read about, especially Jax, a young damaged man whom Tate befriends as part of his own recovery and therapy. Feat of Clay held so many parts that really make a book great for me; angst, humour, sexy sex, love, alpha males and lots of men loving men. Not to mention the appearance of previous much loved characters from the first 3 Men of London books. Really hoping there are more to come and soon!

I didn't think this was an excellent book as were the three previous books in the series, but it's a good story and l loved catching up with the characters from the other books. One thing I didn't get out of this book was a sense of togetherness between the two MCs, Clay and Tate. This was odd as they were in an already established, if secretive, relationship. The connection just wasn't there somehow. This was despite the fact that there was some very hot sex in this book, in fact it was more or less on every other page.

The sex was used as a sort of healing for Tate who was suffering some major angst. I found this a little surprising, due to one of the causes of said angst. But what do I know? I'm no psychiatrist. Anyway,I don't want to go into detail of what happened to Tate and spoil the story for you. Clay is a solid character who we get to know through his relationship with Tate. We do find out that he is alpha by nature and very possessive. He also has a special forces background. Unfortunately I found him a bit cliched, and his character undeveloped.I didn't find him a particularly compelling character.

This was quite a dark tale, but there was some light in it. I enjoyed reading about Tate working with the abused children. There was some feeling here, his relationship with one of the boys, Jax, helped both him and Jax. They obviously connected, and it was nice to read about Jax starting to come out of his shell. I'm certain Jax will get his own book later.

So, I must admit, a little bit of a disappointment, however, if you follow this series the book's a must read. The story was, as with all of Susan Mac Nicol's work, very well written and well executed. I just didn't enjoy these two as much as the couples from the previous books. I liked the book, but I didn't love it, as with the other three.

Men of London just got even hotter. I would say you could read this as a standalone but if you are like me and like to start at the beginning knowing all the characters, start with 'Love You Senseless'.
This is Clay's story and oh boy! it's awesome. Clay has a very handsome but also very trouble partner called Tate.
The love that you feel while reading this story just warms your heart. Every relationship has it's ups and downs. Maybe some more than most but what Clay and Tate are dealing with is more than who left the toilet seat up or who's turn is it to do the dishes.
Tate is suffering with nightmares after being captured and tortured while undercover. I can not even begin to imagine how you would deal with this. It's scary enough to read about what he went through never mind have to deal with it day in and day out. Clay is Tate's rock, he is so strong and hot and sexy and Oh God! Sorry where was I?
Tate has secrets that even Clay doesn't know and he never wants him to find out believing that Clay would want nothing more to do with him. They have wanted each other since they were very young, growing up as best friends. Everyone could see how much they loved each other, no matter how much they thought it was just their secret.
Clay is very protective of Tate to the point where he starts to feel like a child. Sometimes you have to let go in order for your loved ones to grow and Clay is learning this the hard way.
He is everything that Tate needs and vice versa. They love each other so much. It's finding that middle ground so life can go on as smoothly as possible.
Tate likes to draw when he needs a distraction. Hmm well okay draw maybe not the right word. He's an artist of sorts. To me it's called Graffiti. He likes to find a blank canvas of wall and well graffiti it.
Each to their own people. It actually is art, I couldn't do it. Could you?
Let me tell you more about Clay. He has his own business called 'Mortimer Investigations'. He is former SAS, doesn't that just turn you on. Okay maybe just me then. LOL.
Clay is a powerful male, very commanding but yet gentle. He loves with everything he has. He's just the ultimate package.
Yes people I am in love with Clay and not only does he bat for the other team he's a fictional character so I have zero chance of ever hooking up with him. Another book boyfriend to add to my list. Story of my life.
This book is another fantastic read from the Men of London Series. If you love the M/M Genre with a great story then this book is definitely for you.
Susan Mac Nicol YOU ROCK!! Thank you for another fabulous read.

I read this as a stand alone as I wanted to read the spin off series about Clay and Tate. I think I will look at someof the other books later. This was a real hurt and comfort read as Tate recovers from being tortured by a crime boss. He finds comfort from his nightmares and meltdowns not only with Clay, but also with innocents as part of his therapy. While Clay is possessive and a 'Mine' type man, Tate is no shrinking violet - but he does rather like it.

Susan Mac Nicol's Men of London series features an eclectic group of friends, each fighting their own demons whilst having fun, laughs, hot sex and searching for their HEA. Feat of Clay can be read as a stand alone but I highly recommend you read the preceding three books. Knowing the other characters gives you more insight into their friendships and in jokes, and they're just that good!!
In Feat of Clay we meet ex SAS soldier and now owner of his own private detective agency, Clay, and his lover Tate. Tate has recently left the police force after an undercover operation went horribly wrong, leaving him a shell of a man, suffering PTSD and unable to tell the complete truth of what happened to either Clay or his therapist. These two alpha males are shown at their most vulnerable as they struggle to work through Tate's issues and find the peace they need for their HEA.
Feat of Clay is a beautifully written, emotional love story with lots of twists and turns and hot alpha sex. I read it in one sitting and can't recommend it highly enough.

If I could give 10 stars I would!
Because I won't give away anything I just can tell you it's indeed "TWO MEN. TORN. TORTURED. LOVED."!
I just loved Leslie's story in Suit Yourself (Men of London Book 3) and didn't think Susan could top it, but how do you say; never say never...
Anyhow, I highly recommend you read the whole series, and if you love the m/m genre as much as I do, you'll just love all of the books!
I'm a big fan of Susan Mac Nicol and got all of her books, so far I never was disasappointed and always can't wait for another one to come out.

"Feat of Clay," tells the story of two men growing in their relationship together. The story starts after Tate has recovered from being imprisoned and abused when his cover on the assignment he was on was blown. Tate and Clay had grown up as best friends, but revealed their feelings to each other while Tate was recovering and had become lovers.

Clay was a former RAF and SAS officer and now owns his own investigation company. When Tate separated from the police force, Clay hired him. Initially, Clay wanted to keep their relationship a secret to protect Tate from Clay’s enemies, but Tate chafed at being treated as fragile. As the book progresses Tate opens up more about his ordeal and Clay loosens his grip on how protective he’s been.

There are plenty of steamy scenes between the two men, as they both are eager to express their feelings for the other. The side characters also add interest and depth to the story. Especially sweet Jax, who Tate meets at the hallway house he starts helping at as part of his therapy. Overall, I enjoyed "Feat of Clay" and would give it a rating of three and a half stars stars.
