Two men, one who’s flown solo and another who’s only ever played alone, are about to find that at some point all games come to end, it’s time to bare your heart and try for love.

- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 28 January 2016This is a perfect addition to the series. It's not overly angsty, and contains very little drama, so it's a little different in style. Maxwell, after years of one night stands wants what his friends have, a forever partner. Maxwell is a flight attendant and over the years he's seen a lot of 'action', during work. Maxwell decides that those days are over, and he's going to look for the one. However, soon after, on one of his flights, he meets Gibson, who sounds absolutely gorgeous, and is a real character. Gibson's time is mostly taken up with work and one night stands, no repeats. I'm not going to give too many details of what happens next, because I hate spoilers.
We know they're going to eventually get together, and when they do, Maxwell falls fast for Gibson. Gibson finds himself thinking about Maxwell long after their encounter, tries to ignore it, but eventually succumbs. I enjoyed Gibson's best friend, Jack, whose 'take no prisoners' attitude towards Gibson, is really entertaining. He tells Gibson how it is, even if Gibson doesn't want to hear it, and Jack keeps him in line. Sorta.
After reading this, Maxwell has become one of my favourite characters in this series. His background is heart breaking, however, it's one he's pulled himself up from and has made something of himself. He's a beautifully written character, he's strong, funny (loved the crane scene 😁), loyal, but also vulnerable (that prologue 😵, gah). Gibson is also well written, l enjoyed his audacity and brazenness. He made no apologies for who he was and how he acted.
This is quite funny and snarky in parts, but it's also quite an emotional read, I just wanted to hug Maxwell. I wasn't sure about this story, when I read the blurb, it sounded very different to the previous books, all of which I loved. Really! Why did I ever doubt Ms MacNicol? I absolutely love the way she writes, her style is so earthy and revels in its Britishness. Although it can be read as a standalone, I personally would advise that you read the previous books in the series, to really get an idea of what's going on. It was nice to see how the divine Lesley and the gorgeous Oliver were getting on. Excellent story, can't wait for the next one. Very highly recommended. Read it, you really don't know what you're missing. 5+ stars!
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 4 February 2016Maxwell and Gibson's story didn't excite me as much as the other books in the series but I enjoyed it none the less. It's nice to just be able to read a sexy, engaging, well written story of love, romance and hot sex. There is no hidden agenda, foul play or nasty habits going on in this book, but Susan MacNicol does not disappoint with her characters who are both original, intriguing, beguiling and appealing, and I think this is where the strength of this story lies. By the end you really feel in tune with Maxwell and Gibson and it was a very satisfying read. I'm already looking forward to this author's next book - she is definitely on my 'go to' list!
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 4 September 2016In this book we meet Maxwell again who was Oliver's sex buddy before he met Leslie. Max is an air hostess who at the grand old age of 27 realises that the one night stands just aren't enough anymore. He meets cute Gibson on a flight and after some fun wants to see him again but Gibson turns him down, rejected Max tries to put it behind him but a chance meeting in a new nightclub throws the two men together again. Gibson is a game designer who has no interest in relationships until he meets Max again. Secrets and tragedy follow the two men but can they stick together through it all. Recommended

- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 9 January 2024Yet another great addition to this series. What can I say that hasn't been said! Each book is so well written and hooks you in. They all have different character personalities so you get something new each book. This one has a nice low angst storyline that's all about the love (oh and the sex);).

5.0 out of 5 stars Love is in the air.
Flying Solo is the sixth book in the Men of London series by Susan Mac Nicol. Each book is essentially a stand-alone but they are linked by friendship between one or more of the MC's. It is a beautifully written series peppered with varied and fabulous men. I recommend reading them all.
Maxwell Lewis, 27, is a flight attendant for a Target airlines. Life hasn't been easy for him but he's finally getting the happiness he deserves in a job he loves. The opportunity for quick, meaningless hookups has been part of his job's appeal, but lately he's been feeling more and more lonely. Finding a meaningful relationship is not easy with the hours he keeps and the manner in which he meets new partners.
At the relatively young age of 24, Gibson Henry is a gaming whiz kid. He has neither the time nor the inclination for anything beyond a one night stand. Perfecting his new LGBT game Camp Queen in time for the British Gaymz Choice Award is all he has time for, and all he thinks about.
When Gibson meets Maxwell it's lust at first sight. The sizzling hot flight attendant is just the person to fulfil his mile high fantasies. Maxwell sees far more in the gorgeous blonde gamer, but it's clear Gibson is not interested in anything more than a one night stand.
Can Max break down the walls Gibson has built to protect himself and fulfill his dreams? Will Gibson even take the time for a second date, let alone a relationship? Max has his work cut out for him with this ambitious, driven young man, but it'll be worth the effort if he can have any chance of a HEA.
I absolutely loved this book. I adored the MC's, and Gibson's straight best friend, Jack, was a delight, adding depth and humour to the journey these two men took. Susan made me cry, laugh and kept me riveted until Flying Solo's highly satisfying conclusion. I highly recommend this heartwarming, beautiful story.

5.0 out of 5 stars 5 Stars plus, Loved the MCs
Wow..This is a beautiful story.
I loved Gibson and Maxwell as they navigated their way to each other. Maxwell's reaction to Gibson after his first encounter was less than impressive which it hurt Maxwell deeply. The second one didn't end well either for him. Maxwell is adorable man even though his early years since 14 had been hard he'd become a fun loving guy. Gibson was an arse sometimes by teasing his best friend Jack but he had his good moments too.
Maxwell was a snr flight attendant at 27 years he was getting tired of causal hook ups and traveling he was lonely, desperate enough he though of getting a goldfish. lol Gibson was traveling to see his parents for their 30 wedding anniversary when he'd check out the sexy flight attendant.
Two guys are so perfect together and makes such a great story. I'd highly recommend this to readers. Susan's books are beautifully written you cant help to love the characters.

4.0 out of 5 stars Very cute and sweet
I did enjoy this story. It had a few slightly dramatic moments but was primarily a love story. It wasn't terribly exciting but it was a nice, fairly slow build between the MC's. It didn't drag though. There were events that worked to draw them closer together and work through issues without a lot of drama.
I really didn't like Gibson much for a while. His character did change rather a lot over time. There didn't seem to be any particular reason for him to be so commitment-phobic, so that made it worse, to me. It was also a bit hard to believe he went from acting rather cruel to being so sweet.
Max's character was far more believable. The fact that Susan used the realistic scenario of being homeless early in his life, made it interesting. His breakdown during the story though, didn't really match his character as he'd been written. There were reasons given, but since they were told, rather than shown, it kind of took me out of the story.
I liked the secondary characters. I liked Jack, who took Gibson's trash talk in stride so well. His girlfriend Beth was sweet and supportive of Gibson as well. I'm guessing Gibson's friend Ev (Chewy) will be a future character.
I have to say, too often lately, I see authors making characters either really tall, like 6 foot 5 inches or rather short, like Gibson at 5 foot 4 inches. At least Susan didn't make Max too tall. But can't they just be average more often? Plus short men always make me think of my short brother (Ick!) and Napoleon complex!

5.0 out of 5 stars Another Beautiful Story in this series (Maxwell Is Mine)
Flying Solo is book #6 in Susan Mac Nicol's
Men Of London Series and it's the sexy Maxwell' s story who we met in Suit yourself as Oliver's friend with benefits.
Maxwell Lewis has spent years living a life of occasional hook ups and carte Blanche status in The Mile High Club. Maxwell's life was one of tragedy which he's turned around and has been working as a cabin crewman for Target Airlines. He enjoys traveling the world but as of late he's beginning to realize something is missing, with seeing his friends all happily paired off with lovers Maxwell yearns for that connection and to be able to come home to that someone special instead of his empty flat. While on one of his flights Maxwell spots a geeky beautiful passenger named Gibson Henry and when confronted with each other his world as he's known it takes a sudden turn and I will say this.. watching this unfold had me glued to my seat and falling in love.
Gibson Henry is this geeky talented game developer who with his best friend has started up their own gaming company and he's devoted to making his company number one and finds pleasure in occasional hookups with a "No Repeats" rule so after a brief mile high encounter with the sexy cabin crew member Maxwell things begin to change when a brief encounter at a London club brings these two together and sparks fly and life as these two knew will never be the same.
I absolutely love this whole series it's so hard to pick a favorite character. I have fallen in love with each one for different reasons but I will admit this story touched my heart and I've claimed Maxwell as mine. That's right I'm greedy and will not share him, his character grabbed me by the heart and Susan in true magnificent form has once again written another brilliant masterpiece. This story flowed perfectly, to see how one can overcome tragedy and loss and meet that certain someone that can bring you back and make you feel and fall in love again.
The feelings in this story were so emotional I cried with both Maxwell and Gibson but then I was laughing at the banter between these two especially when we were reading their POV on subjects it was so well done , and let's not forget the steamy sex scenes that had me needing a fan in January to cool off.
I loved the way Susan wrote the timeframe with each chapter, we saw so much happen but never rushed nor did the theme drag I can't express enough how well written this is and the growth and companionship between these two was so endearing it shows us that from heartbreak true love can be found, yes it sometimes takes sadness and pain to get there but the journey is so well worth it.
This book can be read as a standalone but I do recommend reading them in order because you get glimpses of past characters from the other books and it will make more sense as to who is who. So if you haven't read this book yet go "one click" this now you will not be disappointed with yet another gem from this amazing author.
Thank you Susan for yet another beautiful story I am already looking forward for your next story.

5.0 out of 5 stars Brilliant!
This series is amazing. Maxwell gets his story. He meets Gibson on a flight he's working. There's a quick hook up and then Gibson blows him off. But something sticks. They both think about each other all the time, so there's another time and another, soon they're exclusive.
Neither have been in love before or had a relationship. Max had a past he was not proud of and didn't want to share for fear he would lose Gibson. Through fits and starts they are able to begin a relationship and things are going well until Max's past hits him right in the face and jeopardizes everything. Only through Gibson's love and patience do these men let it all out and they both get their Happy ending.
Well written, great storyline and characters. This was a perfect addition to the series.
