Walk On By: 'trouble of a serious kind' (Ted Darling Crime Series Book 8) Kindle Edition

4.5 out of 5 stars 925 ratings

Compelling, character-led police procedural crime thriller with a distinctly different type of detective in the lead role.

It's a big operation and a complex one. With the Big Boss out of action, Ted's in charge of one part of the enquiry, the robbery and brutal stabbing of a woman in a car park. But overseeing it all is a senior officer with a serious grudge against Ted. One who'd stop at nothing to take him down.

Then another face from the past turns up, needing Ted's help. One whose presence can only mean trouble of a serious kind.

Review

Amazon customer: 'Great read and plot, as have been all in L M Krier's Ted Darling series. Un-put-downable from the start. The writing and storyline have got better with each one. And, in Walk on By, more is revealed about Ted's flawed personal background. This makes him less than perfect which is good.'

Amazon customer: 'Don't "Walk on by" if you come across this book. Absolutely brilliant and impossible to put down. Each book in the Ted Darling series just gets better and better. In this book we learn a little more about Ted's past which only gives us a better insight to his character. The criminal cases are realistic and credible which gives a good insight into the daily life of Ted and his team.'

Amazon customer: 'Another solid performance from Darling and crew.
More insights into the main characters neurosis, I am loving the character progression as this series goes on....(almost like the author is thinking of a future TV series). It adds a depth and interest thar keeps me coming back for more....
And a surprise for avid readers at the end'

I love this series and have read them all. It was a nervous wait for this one...... as wondered what L. M Krier would bring this time..
As a police procedural it was quite good. Crime was realistic and got you caught up and intrigued. The way the crime had to be managed - across counties and divisions was at times confusing and heavy handed , but LM Krier, as always keeps you tantalised and teased and begging for more.
The back story of Ted as a young police man living with his dad, gives us an insight to his character and explained his attitude to drinking. The relationship with his mother was also expanded with possibly not the outcome many would like.
Ted's many skills and talents continue to be the backbone for these stories and don't we just love them.😊👏🏻👏🏻
Jezza's story line was almost an add on, coming a sad third to the main thread and then that of Annie.
Trev is continuing to grow as a character and we get to know more about his relationship with Ted.
The other cast members also keep us guessing, as new aspects of their lives come up and of course their continued support of Ted.
I had pretty much guessed the ending, which didn't make it any less of a shock!!!!!!
I rate Ted right up there with "Vera" and "Harry Hole"! He leaves DCI Banks and Inspector Linley completely in the shade.
If you haven't read this series you are missing out on a real treat💚
How long before the next one ....... no pressure but....

I have read each book in the Ted Darling series, and enjoyed them all. This one was very enjoyable, but it ends with a cliffhanger. I'll certainly read the next one, but I would have done so anyway and would have preferred a solid ending. Big fan of Ted, Trevor, and all of the recurring characters.

DCI Ted Darling is made part of a group of cops from different divisions to try to stop scam artists who have not only bilked many people, but have killed one of them. Put in charge of this group is an old nemesis of Ted's. Ted doesn't carry a grudge, but this superior officer does. Ted is put in charge of finding the killer by a man who hopes that he will fail, and tries to see that he does so. If that isn't enough, someone from a prior case has hired someone to try to seriously injure Ted; if not to outright kill him. Then his mother is attacked by a bigot who hears her speaking Welsh. She is so frightened and undone by the attack that she decides she needs to get away. Ted has been trying to keep his partner, Trev, out of the limelight in order to protect him from any old enemies, but Trev doesn't believe there's a risk to him. I found myself eager to turn each page to find out if Ted succeeds in spite of the roadblocks put in his way. I have grown very fond of this cast of characters and am eager to read the next book in the series to see what new tests of their spirit and skills will be put before them.

I enjoy each new installment of D.I. Ted Darling and his crew, as well as his happily continuing relationship with Trevor, his one true love. There is always murder and mystery and sometimes mayhem. But it's all in the normal course of things for D.I. Darling and his co-workers. A solid team of loyal police who treat one another with admirable respect, they have a nasty superior thrown at them in this book. He hates Ted, and can barely contain his venom in dealing with him. It takes a lot of resolve for Ted to hold his tongue and his temper when facing this bully of a boss. Luckily, they don't work together on every case, and Ted takes the high road as would be expected. Less suspense in this one, but spot on police procedures. Always a pleasure, Ms. Krier.

Walk On By is another immensely enjoyable book in this series. What could be a negative is actually a positive in that I can predict I'll find it hard to put down. The only character that doesn't quite ring true to me is the Ice Queen. She's much too reasonable to be considered 'icy' and I find it hard to imagine such an uber cool woman who rides a Ducati, has two teenage sons and is so compassionate as being an Ice Queen. She's one of the best characters in the books from my point of view so I'd give her a different nickname. That aside, another great story involving topical situations and some strong action and interaction.

Another solidly plotted police procedural. I was ready to award it five stars, until I got to the last lines and the cliff hanger. Sorry. The author should trust his readers and not hope they will get the next book to know what happened.

I wait impatiently for each new book. You can read them stand alone but I suggest you read the series. I'm not from England so I sometimes get lost in some of the dialog. Ted is a policeman who likes his life low key but he and his damn get lost he her cases to all e. This one is the murder of a woman who thought she was helping the police with an identity theft ring unfortunately she is killed in the process. Ted has to deal with a new boss on the investigation as well as his mother being assaulted. I do love the books and Ted does remind me of Chuck Norris.

5.0 out of 5 stars Brilliant book....Brilliant Series

Erm wow I don't actually know where to start so I will start by saying this is the seventh book in the series how the hell did that happen?! Seriously this author produces such excellent quality stories in no time at all. It only feels like yesterday since I read the first book in the series Baby Got Blue Eyes in each book the plot thickens and the characters grow from strength to strength. and in this story I really feel like I actually know them has real people and could happily have a green tea or two with Ted.

For those of you that haven't read this series DI Ted Darling lives with his partner Trevor....yes they are gay which for me makes this a unique series something that is totally different to other crime books that I have read. But it might not be everyone's cup of tea. These guys are certainly the stars of the show and make a brilliant strong couple.

This can be read has a standalone but I recommend you read the series with this story we get a whole new insight on the characters personal life and family woven in with police procedure. Ted finds himself in charge with the big boss out of action. The story starts off with a robbery and a brutal stabbing of a woman. He really has his work cut out with a senior officer who has a grudge about Ted overseeing the cases will stop at nothing to take Ted down.

OMG what a story with a start to the story that will have you hooked until the end. This book has been sitting on my pile for far to long and I really wish I had read it sooner I flipping loved it.....OMG and that ending! I seriously cannot wait to read the next book.

Has always I love Lesley's style of writing making me feel that connection with the characters. This book has a brilliant plot and what I like to call an easy read and it would make a wicked TV series.

I highly recommend Walk On By giving it 5 massive stars.

I have had this book on my iPad for a couple of weeks..... waiting to read it whilst on holiday......I'm glad I waited. It's a terrific read, well written, a good story with intrigue, one or two heart stopping moments and even some humour! For those who are familiar with the series there are some lovely moments between your favourite characters........no spoilers though so I won't tell you......just read it!
If you are not familiar with the series you could start with this one, it isn't necessary to have read the earlier books. (Although you will probably want to having read this) A great read ........can't wait for the next in the series and judging by the ending of this one it will have a worrying start!
