- Reviewed in the United States on December 17, 2014From the beginning of "Someone to Watch Over Me" it was evident that Jerrie Alexander is a talented writer. Her words sucked me into Stacey's story and the mystery immediately. Why does Stacey have nightmares about men with knives? We quickly learn that she`s hiding from a man named Ray Simmons. Stacey goes back home to start over and lands a night job serving beer at a bar. I instantly fell for Stacey and her witty, sarcastic personality. Her dialogue, as well as the dialogue for all the other characters, is very convincing. She's a well thought-out character. All of the characters, even the minor ones are developed so well that I could clearly picture them as real people without any effort.
During her second night at the bar, Stacey encounters Cash Butler, an old fling who broke her heart when he ditched her to join the Army. But why he left isn't what she thinks. Sparks fly immediately as the past comes back to haunt them.
There's a lot of suspense in this story with a stalker and murders as well as heat and romance.
I did notice a few minor spelling errors, but not enough that it affected my reading or enjoyment of the story. Actually, I couldn't read this story fast enough, and I did not expect the end.
At one point, Cash's name became Ty. I'm surprised that wasn't caught during editing, but I know how it is as an author. There's been times when I've mixed up character names. But that little slip didn't even bother me.
If you have a thing for cowboys and enjoy romantic-suspense, check this one out!
- Reviewed in the United States on January 14, 2014This was a page turner for me. It had me trying to figure out just who is stalking Stacey and the real reason why Cash left her life. Just when I thought I had it figured out, a twist popped up. It had me hoping that love will find a way back into their hearts. It was fast paced and has likable characters . A nice lunch break read or just need a nice break for yourself.
- Reviewed in the United States on August 21, 2013This is a book I downloaded and read because it was free on Kindle and I needed to kill some time.
For what it was, a short contemporary romance, it was okay. The characters were basic but didn't have any overly annoying habits/traits. I appreciate the author trying to add some plot twists towards the end but I'm not really sure it benefited the story.
- Reviewed in the United States on June 10, 2013This is an over 18 story. There is only one love scene but it is steamy! Very well told suspense and the romance is spun in just right. I have read Alexander's other work, including The Green Eyed Doll and The Last Execution and I can say that this is another hit. Quick read and an enjoyable book.
- Reviewed in the United States on July 8, 2016Suspense loving readers will love taking a trip back to 2013 and reading SOMEONE TO WATCH OVER ME by Jerrie Alexander.
We meet Stacey, a young woman on the run from a dangerous past. She’s returned to her hometown to escape and hide only to discover the one man who broke her heart has also returned. Neither wants to start a romance but the inevitable happens and Cash is forced to do whatever he can to get Stacey back.
There’s lots of emotional scenes between the two main characters. Both suffer from different forms of PTSD which they both recognize in the other. This contrast of “disorders” makes for a good psychological read as Stacey and Cash have to learn how to deal with each other. Add into the mix a mysterious stalker and a manipulative father and you have a great suspense novel.
It’s definitely worth checking out and I highly recommend it!
- Reviewed in the United States on November 3, 2013Gak! This is a highly formulaic romance. Stacey is the local rich girl who moves back home. Cash is the poor boy who made good. Strangely, someone interfered with their romance as teenagers and they were not able to figure it out for ten years.
The author tries to throw in a plot twist, but it is hard to get over the stilted dialogue and too obvious story line. At one point in the book, the lead characters have name changes from Stacey and Cash to Jocelyn and Ty. Too funny. The heroine falls in the too stupid to live category, as she continues to work at the local bar (not because she is broke) even though her stalker has killed two people.
For about the same money, you could be reading Kristen Ashley, Penny Reid, or Ruthie Knox.
- Reviewed in the United States on November 27, 2013This was a well written story and a quick read that kept my interest. The main characters had a heartwarming second chance at rekindling their high school romance after being apart for many years. Fate brought them back together and this time nothing was going to separate them, not a crazed stalker or even a murderer. The suspense and mystery of who the killer is builds to a surprising conclusion that I never saw coming!
- Reviewed in the United States on August 30, 2013This short novella has some interesting plot situations and a real surprise at the conclusion that seemed to come out of nowhere, yet the lack of clues should have been a red flag early on. The heroine is running from a stalker and hopes she has found a safe place where she will not be found when an old flame attempts to keep her safe. I really felt that the ending came out of left field but I guess real life turns out that way sometimes.
