Life’s Getaway to Happiness is book two in the Show Me series. This book is a five-star read.
Kelly has been unfairly fired from the job that she has put so much work into for poor work performance. Kelly is completely blind-sided by being fired and asks herself how can this be since she has had three promotions in the time that she has been with Lattice Works. Absolutely devastated she leaves Knoxville behind and returns home to St Louis, she has decided she is going to her sister Angelina’s home rather than go to her parents. Arriving in St Louis she forgets she’s left Knoxville in a tee shirt and no jacket. On arriving in St Louis and not far from Angelina’s home she swerves to miss a deer and ends up in a snow filled ditch. Lucky her, her brother in-law Alec finds her and takes her back to his house for a hot shower and drink.
Once she has had both he takes her to Angelina’s home. When alone Angelina wants to know what has happened Kelly tells her sister a lie as she is too embarrassed about the reason she was given. It doesn’t take too long for the family to start putting the pieces together, and know there is more to the story than is being told, their suspicions are made even stronger when they find out Kelly has told two different stories. Alec the confirmed bachelor finds himself having feelings for Kelly and in doing so is determined to get to the bottom of what is happening to Kelly. So, he decides he is going to Knoxville to have a meeting with Bill Lattice and if he doesn’t get the answers he wants is tempted to pull the plug on the upgrade they are paying Lattice Works for.
So now the questions are:
Does Alec get the answers he is looking for?
Will Kelly be upset when if she finds Alec has spoken to Bill?
Will Alec realize before it’s too late that he des in fact love Kelly?
The characters were complex, believable, and likable. Alec is a pediatrician and an eternal bachelor. Kelly works in a tech department and is his brother's sister-in-law. When Kelly gets stuck in a snowy ditch, Alec rescues her and arranges for her car to be towed out of the ditch. Soon Alec and Kelly are spending more and more time together. And although it's clear Kelly likes Alec, Alec notices that she flinches and cringes when he touches her. Alec and the rest of his family are determined to find out why Kelly was suddenly and unexpectedly fired from her job. Alec is sure the flinching and the odd firing are related. Can he find out the truth? And if he does, will it destroy any trust Kelly has for him?
The plot was steady and held my attention all the way through. The relationship between Alec and Angelina was sweet, tender, and romantic. I liked that their relationship built gradually and that much of the story centered around their two families. The secondary characters were well written, and I hope to see more of them in the rest of the series.
This my third by Anne Stone, and I look forward to seeing more of her work, especially in this particular series, as the series reminds me of the holiday movies on the Hallmark channel. If you like sweet romances revolving around family, this is a good book for you!

Life's Gateway to Happiness is the second book in the Show Me Series by Anne Stone. It is a slow burning contemporary romance with a bit of drama thrown in to keep things interesting. After reading the first book and loving Angelina and Alejandro’s story, I was happy to jump into this book and connect with more of the Samuels/Alvarez family. As I expected from Ms. Stone, the characters were really fantastic. They were strong, fully developed, realistic and believable. I think Kelly and Alec’s story may just be my favourite of the series so far.
Even though this is the second book in the series, it could be read as a standalone without losing any of the impact of the story. But, the first book is really great and you would be missing out by not reading it.
Alec Alvarez is a paediatrician, in a family of doctors. He’s a confirmed bachelor and has no plans for that to change anytime soon. He’s also Alejandro’s (Book One) brother. Kelly Samuels is Angelina’s sister and works in IT as a senior software development tester. When she unexpectedly loses her job, she decides to pay her sister a visit, to regroup and try to decide what to do next. Not far from her sister’s home, Kelly swerves to avoid a deer and ends up stuck in a snowy ditch. Along come Alec and rescues her. And so begins this clever, heart-warming and sweet story.
There are things that Kelly isn’t being truthful about and as she and Alec spend time together, Alec comes to realise that there is more to her than she’s letting on. He is determined to discover the truth of the situation and help Kelly. What will he discover? What isn’t Kelly telling everyone, and why? Is there a future for these two?
This is a well written story full of emotion and feeling. The story line was wonderful with a lot of heart and soul put into it.
It has a great pace and a smooth flow- I read it in a day.
If you like a sweet story, with a slow burning romance, and well crafted, endearing characters- then this is the book for you.
Thank you, Ms. Stone!

5 out of 5 stars
The story Life's Gateway to Happiness (The Show Me Series Book 2) by Anne Stone is a contemporary romance book. She came home suddenly and unemployed. He helps her out when she is stuck on the side of a snowy road. A connection starts to form when these two start spending time together. He has never wanted marriage or commitment. She has a secret that she is guarding. Even with the challenges they face these two gravitate toward each other. He has started seeing her as his future. Is she willing to entrust him with her heart? Can he find the real reason that she is so hesitant when he tries to touch her? Will he be able to help her bring back the happy person she once was?
This is the second story in the Show Me series and It is just as amazing as the first. I fell in love with the first book and now the second as well. I highly recommend reading them in order as there are references to situations that start in the first book and continue in the second. The characters also overlap. While each book is about a couple and their journey to find love, it also updates you on the lives of the characters in the previous book. It is like catching up with old friends. This is the story of Kelly Samuels and Alex Alvarez. Kelly is devastated when she is fired from her job and has come home to try to put her life back together. It is when she starts spending time with Alec that they begin to find their attraction to each other growing. Kelly is also very guarded with herself and her heart. There are references to something that has happened that Kelly will not share either with her family or with Alec. Will Kelly find the courage to open up to Alec about what she is keeping secret?
Alec is someone that never thought about commitment and marriage. He is happy being single and seems to be married to his work as a pediatrician. All of this changes when he starts spending more time with Kelly. Now he starts seeing a future with her. Alec wants to help Kelly as he sees that she is not the fun, happy person that she once was. He goes about finding the truth about what has happened to her. It is in this investigation that Alec takes some actions that he believes will help Kelly, however, if she finds out the truth it could spell trouble. Alec begins to worry more and more about Kelly and some of the actions that she is taking. Will Alec find out the whole truth behind the secret that Kelly is keeping?
This is an author that knows how to weave a story that you will not want to put down until you finish the last page. She has created characters that are amazing and would do anything to help each other out. When one is in pain the others rally around them. In this story not only do you get that warm feeling that comes with reading of two people falling in love, there is also the heartwarming feeling of family and home. An awesome read that you don’t want to miss! I can’t wait to read the next book in the series.
