Ted Tayler is the international best-selling indie author of the Freeman Files and Phoenix series. Ted lives in the English West country, where his stories are based. He was born in 1945 and has been married to Lynne since 1971. They have three children and four grandchildren.

His thought-provoking mysteries appeal to readers of Sally Rigby, Joy Ellis, Pauline Rowson, and Faith Martin. His action-packed thrillers are a must for fans of Mark Dawson and J C Ryan.

Gus Freeman’s cold case investigations are carried out with reasoned deduction rather than bursts of frantic action. In each of the 24 books, unsolved murders are accompanied by romance, humour, and country life. The core message in the 12 Phoenix novels is that criminals should pay for their crimes. Unfortunately, the current system fails to deliver the correct punishment, so Phoenix helps redress the balance.

I found this rambling tale of criminal activity a rather British outlook on life. The characters were confusing with alias used to hide them within various setting. This was interesting if somewhat dry reading.

Wow! I just finished book 6 of the Phoenix series. Having read all six I can say this is the best series I have ever read. The vigilantes are the good guys and put away in one manner or another, including disposal, of all manner of criminals. I can’t wait to start book 7.

Outstanding thriller with just the appropriate amount of character development thrown in. The saga keeps the reader on the edge of their chair and rapidly turning pages. Looking forward to the next book.

3.0 out of 5 stars A plot line too far?
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on October 4, 2023
These books should really score better than 3 stars but there are too many typos and missing words, terrible punctuation and over-use of commas where none are needed and which actually break the flow of a sentence and there is too much rambling and backfilling rather than getting on with the plot.

As for the plot, it isn't original or unique, but it does ask the reader to suspend belief in that the Phoenix organisation can kill people and can repeatedly get away with it without the security forces ever tumbling them. I can't but help think that is stretching things too far.

4.0 out of 5 stars very enjoyable
Reviewed in Australia on April 9, 2022
There are a few spelling mistakes and one or two other oddities that don’t add up, but over the three books it was nothing really. Very rare blasphemy, no open bedroom doors. It’s violent, but none of the violence is described. It’s a bit of fantasy in a hard world of crime fighting.
I had not read the first three books, but that did not stop me from stepping straight into this world created and enjoying the characters, the plots or the
    Overall texture of the books.
