4.6 out of 5 stars 50 ratings

Someone is still watching from the shadows. And waiting…

The relieved residents of Cold Springs are returning to their normal lives after an arrest in the recent kidnapping. But their children remain in danger, vulnerable pawns for a man who’ll go to any length to make Adam Rutledge suffer.

Adam Rutledge wants nothing more than to forget his brush with death and the childhood trauma it has reawakened. Instead, he’s losing touch with the world around him and falling deeper into visions he can’t escape of horrors that aren’t his own.

When the unthinkable happens and another child is taken, suspicion falls upon Adam, whose role in rescuing the previous victim cannot be explained. Soon Adam is running from the authorities, searching for the missing child and for answers about what is overpowering his mind. But can he live with what he finds?

Founder is the second book in the Dead Hollow psychological suspense trilogy. If you like crime thrillers, authentic characters, and a dash of paranormal, then you’ll love Judy K. Walker’s haunting series.

A recovering criminal attorney, Judy K. Walker has enough spare letters after her name (and student loan debt) to suggest that insatiable curiosity is something fictional Tallahassee PI Sydney Brennan inherited from her creator. Fortunately, Judy’s curiosity rarely involves murders.

Born and raised in West Virginia, Judy returned to her roots in the Appalachian supernatural thriller Dead Hollow trilogy (Prodigal, Founder, and Heir). Now she's back at work on the next Sydney Brennan book.

Judy writes from her home in rainy East Hawaii, where she is surrounded by husband, feral pigs, and assorted geckos.

MY RELATIONSHIP WITH SYDNEY BRENNAN: Many authors say their characters are their alter egos, doing the things they've always wanted to do in the ways they wish they could do them. At the risk of sounding shallow, my private investigator Sydney Brennan--with her shoulder-length, curly red hair--is my Hair Alter Ego. It's hard to tell from the ancient, faded, pre-digital photo at the right, but when I was very young I had red ringlets of curls. (And yes, shockingly, that is a book in my hands.) They never grew back after my first haircut, and my mother still laments their loss. The red hue is long gone and as for the curls, the best I can do now is a persistent cowlick and the occasional unruly wave.

There is a surprise around every chapter. Just when you think you have something figured out you get a surprise. The characters are amazing. This book kept my attention to the point that family could be talking and I wouldn't know what they said. I really like the exploration of having "the sight". Another part I liked is we learn about Adam's grandfather and the relationship with Adam's dad. It is insight to why things are the way they are. This book ends in a cliffhanger but it is worth the read. I can't wait for the next book.

This is the second of a three book series following JJ, Adam and Danny. The stories are exciting and kept me involved until the end of each book. Looking forward to reading the Heir, the third book in the series.

This one is as good as the first but docking one star because the author continues the habit that annoyed me in the first one. I am SOOOO tired of hearing about Adam vomiting everywhere. It is really not necessary to show him vomiting or comment on the vomit on his shirt or the sidewalk or in the trash can in every chapter. When she runs out of other excuses, she gives him food poisoning. Even the dog gets in on the vomiting act in this one. Why is this author so obsessed with this? Move on, already.

Otherwise, it's well written, answers some questions from the first one, leaves some ends for the 3rd one to tie up. With the exception of the main character, the characters show some natural character growth in book two, and the relationships shift in natural ways. Solid middle book for the trilogy.

Let me start by saying this is book two in a trilogy, I highly recommend reading book one before you read this book, that being said, I need to say wow, I absolutely loved this book! This author rocks, her story telling is remarkable, her characters are well developed, I never know what is going to happen next and that is something I love in a book. I am so connected with the characters .I'm very happy with the way this series is unfolding, just gets better and better. If you like a little strange with your crazy mystery this series is for you, give this Author a try, you'll be hooked!

I read this book I'm a day and a half. I just couldn't put it down. This is a GREAT series and it saddens me that I only have one more book with characters I have come to look forward to spending time with.
