Queen Avan: The Complete Three Parts Kindle Edition

4.4 4.4 out of 5 stars 62 ratings

Avan’s land is dying.

A washerwoman whose future is bleak, Avan faces starvation. When the capital takes those in her village with tribal magic, she leaves with them, hoping for a better life. Or at least a constant supply of food.

Saving her country, gaining the heart of a prince, and then getting captured by savages wasn't exactly what she'd had in mind.

But the real threats come from unexpected places and soon everyone she loves is at risk. She must untangle decades of corruption and rid the country of its most powerful leaders or watch her village starve.

This is the complete edition including:
Part One: Avan’s Gift
Part Two: Avan’s Curse
Part Three: Avan’s Heart.

Queen Avan is set two hundred years before the events of The Flawed Princess and can be read, before, after or independently.

The first half of part one is pretty slow and not as good as her other series. HOWEVER, once the author finally gets everything setup, this book is awesome! Prepare yourself; it's not a quick read, but you'll find yourself fully immersed. One trigger warning: you'll get attached to characters (both people and animals), but there are violent battle scenes and not all are happy endings. It's quite realistic about the treachery in divided kingdoms and kingdoms at war are like. You're always cheering for the good guys to win (though you're not always sure which ones are the good guys), but victory is costly.

Very interesting magic/power system. Great pacing, character development and relationship development. It was very unique storyline.

Definitely read this before The Flawed Princess as it will give you a lot more background for that book. I actually like this one more than the flawed princess.

This can be read before or after 'The Flawed Princess', but I think it would be better to read this first.

Avan is a very flawed character, in that she has no real self-direction, and is quite naive. Her growth is in spurts, which is more realistic than most main characters in books. She finishes off still uncertain of herself, but more sure of who she wants to become.

The story arc was a bit of a struggle to get through. The politics of who was who, and keeping up with all the various plots throughout, were giving me a headache. I almost quit reading about halfway, but I'm glad I didn't give up. I'm still slightly off-kilter, and if I didn't have a long TBR list, I would read 'The Flawed Princess' again to rehash the things that link the two stories.

So, though the author states you can read the two stories in any order, I suggest reading Queen Avan's story first.

I thoroughly enjoyed this omnibus! Each part kept enhancing the journey of Avan, the washer girl who would become queen. I kept thinking things would end one way but I could not predict this ending. This was fun to read.

I can't imagine reading the three parts separately. I found the first part to be slow, but the second and third parts more than made up for it. The main character solved the problem at the end in a way I didn't see coming because it wasn't what I would have done. Which made me disconnect with the character at first when I finished, but then I realized for her it was the correct decision, and she is not me.

Very exciting romantic adventurous intriguing story. I spent a whole day reading all 3 books. The characters were so real and you just wished they would act like you wanted them too. That’s where the suspense comes in.

I saw this omnibus on KU and it looked like it might be good, so I picked it up, and I ended up being really impressed by this trilogy. I thoroughly enjoyed the characters in this story and the way they developed. Avan was a wonderful character and I had a hard time putting this book down. I thought there was just the right amount of romance and adventure in the books. I had never read anything by this author, but after reading this trilogy, I looked up more of her novels to add to my to-read list.

As usual Alice created a series which is well-nigh impossible to put down (something which caused me to be late for multiple appointments and to fall asleep after 2AM on many occasions!) I loved reading about Avan, a girl with very humble beginnings who grew to become the best queen that Cedric and his kingdom could possibly ask for. This series encompassed everything - romance, tragedy, comedy and super twists and turns that I for one never saw coming! (Spoiler alert) the death of Jasper broke my heart but the way that Avan learnt from her mistakes and matured as a woman and a queen made the tragedy worth it. In this world those you expect to be good were traitors and those that should have been evil (Jasper and his men) were actually kind, wonderful teachers (well for the most part anyway!) I loved how Avan overcame adversity and how she came up with her own solution to a problem instead of letting others tell her what to do, how she realised she was in love with Cedric and refused to marry another even for the good of the kingdom and how she used her latent gift for the good of others and the kingdom instead of seeking power through it. I really enjoyed getting to know the characters in this series and was very sad to put it down at the end, having forgotten that The Flawed Princess continues the story. Of course when I realised that there was a follow-on I immediately pounced on it and devoured it almost in one sitting. That story was also incredible and I enjoyed the glimpses seen through Violet's eyes of the history of Queen Avan and her people. Alice seems to weave a spell in every single one of her books. A spell that will make you choose reading over a movie or any other pastime and which will often make you lose track of time! 5 stars aren't enough for this series!

5.0 out of 5 stars Avan, a young inexperienced woman, discovers she has the power to change destiny of the kingdom.

Queen Avan is the complete set of the trilogy Avan's Gift, Curse and Heart. It is the prequel to The Flawed Princess. The book follows the fortunes of the young Avan from humble beginnings to becoming queen. It is set in a magical kingdom where different tribes have unique abilities. Every now and then someone emerges with the ability to harness all the gifts.

Avan is a tempestuous young woman on a journey of self discovery. Powerful characters and old alliances are at breaking point. In the midst of adventure, plots and intrigue Avan discovers love, her gifts, and her destiny.

The book is a gripping tale with a feel good factor, one you are likely to want to read again. It sets the background for the The Flawed Princess, and is a good enjoyable read with a good dose of healthy romance.

I have been so excited to read this book since finishing 'The Flawed Princess' (also in the series). 'Queen Avan' has not dissapointed! Another beautiful, captivating and gripping story from Alice Ivinya. I haven't finished it yet, but can't put it down! Definitely recommend.
