3.9 out of 5 stars 51 ratings

It is 4697 A.D. and the Earth doesn't exist anymore. Humans reside in a celestial space station that is larger than the average star and is powered by the stars themselves. It is informally called a 'Star-Eater', but its official name is Krikos.

While exploring the eternity of space, humans find a possibly habitable solar system. Krikos sends out a mission under the leadership of the famed warrior, Captain Krawn Xanethius, to examine the ideal planet. Krawn soon realises that they are not alone in the Universe. But, his real ambiguity lies in the mysterious existence of a human colony in the system prior to their arrival.

A new war would engulf the Galaxy and plethora of lies shall be made known; making the anthropocentric yet existential human being question it all. The truth, though, lies in a small journal, written a thousand years before the birth of Krawn, by the creator of the Krikos and the smartest being to have ever lived - Dr. Flex D'Dustener.

Is the purpose of the Krikos to merely save humankind... Or is it much more? Embark on this journey of unknowns and get the answer to the greatest question of all - 'Why?'.

The first SciFi novel I have discarded in quite some time. Its not to say that it is bad. It was just not my cup of tea. Seemed like a exercise in literary self abuse (i.e. mental masturbation).

Krikos is an science fiction as blurb gives a brief idea about the plot so avoiding any spoiler. Here are the reasons to give this book a chance,
Author have a unique and strong imagination, also drafting have done with almost care and have adequate synchronisation between the events. language is captive to keep reader intact and lucid. Two parallel stories are incorporated in the book and author have done justices to both which is appreciating. The overall concept is unique and intriguing. It's a long and worth reading the pace of story is moderate. In starting author explain each and every era which provides base to the story. The story required a lot of attention alike reading a research work. It also contains refreshing poems. Cover is designed perfectly with spacecraft which is enhance by beautiful space background. Highly recommended for science fiction lovers. Looking forward to read " The Mangoman " by the author.

    Line from the book:
There is no end for there was no beginning, The end brought by change. This is eternal Stillness. Hidden in the ‘was’, the ‘is’ and the ‘will be’, The one without an end, without a change, The majesty of Stillness, Forever shall it reign.

4.0 out of 5 stars Engaging, dazzling and delightful read

Krikos: The Vertical Horizon sci-fi tale of future humans habituated in space and thier scientific missions on enchanted discrete dark lands.
Book contains lot of integrated stories but primely two stories are running parallel each having 21 units, narrated one by one alternatively. One part is 'Diaries of Flex' depicting creation of Krikos and another is 'Into the Dimension' is about human living on Krikos in time of 4697 A.D. Story mostly revolves around Krawn the Xanethius of Europium, during Epilion Exploration mission, lost his space ship along with his crew members and dear wife, followed by an incident of an Annaeaxian alien named Witt. Another story depicts the life of Flex Grid, his journey and sacrifice. Meanwhile there's mythological story Goddess of Hope, Galacta and her son Kronos and Krydon. Within, readers would find human emotions and poetry too rather than of imaginative futuristic story of advanced science and technology, space exploration and extraterrestrial life. For a time while reading, it would certainly make you worried for this world when you start reading, even as we are 'Earthless' human time traveling through space.
Sci-fi story asks much efforts, as it has every concept unknown and just a whole imagination of author's mind only so it would be tough to make content reader friendly and author Dubey efficiently maintained it throughout. However adding illustrations would make it more easier to understand new technologies. I rarely read such book and I must say I enjoyed thoroughly, despite I am not of sci-fi genre. Eventually it's awesome read to recommend all.

4.0 out of 5 stars A Science Fiction world that is coming and reminds you of star wars!

Krikos: The Vertical Horizon by Rishabh Dubey is a story about the star eater - Krikos and the Authors own world he has made in it.
    .
Disclaimer: The book is a masterpiece just like #starwars but the treatment is purely scientific which was a little hard for me to understand but is going to be a delight and a challenge for Science Fiction genre fans.
    .
The author takes you through a timeline and gives a photographic image in your mind of the characters even though it's a world that may exist or not exist.
    .
The emotional treatment of the book with its characters was something that I found very amusing which must have been a hard task for the author but made it all the more interesting.
    .
Remember my friends, the book's history starts at 2094. It's 2020 and looking at the planet earth we could been in Rishabh Dubey's world.
    .
This is a must-read if you have read star-wars or seen stars wars or imagined of a world where Homo- Sapiens don't exist. Yes,my friend that's exactly what makes this book exciting and challenging.
    .
The author has paid such great attention to what transpires between countries in his timeline,in his world that at places you find yourself smiling or laughing as he looked at the present condition and invented Krikos.
    .
    Definitely read.
    .
I personally recommend it. Also there is an index at the end to make it easy for you to understand the world.
    .
Of course, there's a sequel. Don't miss it.
