JOHNNY WORTHEN grew up in the high desert snows and warm summer winds of the Wasatch Mountains. He graduated with a B.A. in English, minor in Classics and a Master's in American Studies from the University of Utah. After a series of businesses and adventures, including years abroad and running his own bakery, Johnny found himself drawn to the only thing he ever wanted to do -- write. And write he does. Well versed in modern literary criticism and cultural studies, Johnny writes upmarket multi-genre fiction – thriller, horror, young adult, comedy and mystery so far. “I write what I like to read,” he says. “That guarantees me at least one fan and a hectic job for my publicist.”
When not pounding on his keyboard, teaching the craft, attending conferences and conventions, Johnny Worthen can be found with his wife and boys in Sandy, Utah.
Elizabeth Suggs is a writer, an editor, and a leader in the writing community. She obsessively writes each morning, lunch, and evening. When she’s not writing, she’s leading a group of writers through bi-weekly workshops on feedback and focused writing. She believes these meetings help writers understand themselves in the world and better prepare them for major publishers.
She is published in a podcast, a poetry journal, with news agencies, several anthologies, and headed an anthology project. She also helped an author publish his children’s book.
Outside of writing, Elizabeth devours literature through reading or listening. She tries any genre once, but she especially loves classics, horror, sci-fi, and psychology texts. Sometimes she even listens to audiobooks while playing games because she can stay productive that way.
She used to be a journalist, so many of her publications are nonfiction hard news and events, but she hopes to break the pattern and publish works of art in fiction and poetry, just like the authors she loves reading.

Caryn Larrinaga is an internationally best-selling mystery and horror author. She has won multiple awards for her work, including the League of Utah Writers Silver Quill and the Cat Writers Association Muse Medallion. In 2021, she was named Writer of the Year by the League of Utah Writers.
Watching scary movies through split fingers terrified Caryn as a child, and those nightmares inspire her to write now. Her 90-year-old house has a colorful history, and the creaking walls and narrow hallways send her running (never walking) up the stairs. Exploring her fears through writing makes Caryn feel a little less foolish for wanting a buddy to accompany her into the tool shed.
Caryn lives near Salt Lake City, Utah, with her husband and their clowder of cats. Visit www.carynlarrinaga.com for free short fiction and true tales of haunted places.

- Reviewed in the United States on March 15, 2021I didn't pay much attention to the small print on the cover when I saw this book. I thought it was going to be one story, a novel. I wasn't in any way let down. I adore the kind of stories that make you sit on the edge of your seat, and cause the hair on your arms to stand up. That's exactly what these ghostly and witchy stories do. Each one gets better than the next. You will want to read them out loud to share with those around you. I want to say bravo to the authors! There are many... Bryce Anderson, Rhiannon Carswell, Nathaniel J. Warmish, Jen Ellwyn, Aren K. Hatch, Ben Jorden, Caryn Larrinaga, Margot Monrot, J.T. Moore, Luthor Pendragon, Joshua P. Sorenson, Elizabeth Suggs, Rufo Tolintino, S. Morgan Wake, Cassidy Ward, Johnny Worthern, and Bryan Young. This was a wonderfully spooky book, and I recommend it to everyone.
- Reviewed in the United States on January 4, 2021I loved the variety of stories included in this anthology.

- Reviewed in the United States on October 31, 2020A great collection with some great talent represented. Some very chilling horror stories. A perfect October read. Or any time, TBH.
- Reviewed in the United States on June 1, 2021Crazy little collection of stories we have here! The Figment... Im not even sure how to describe that one, so I won't, but it's def... yea (well, to me it was!)!! There were definitely several stories that stood out... some are more light-hearted, while others are darker and scarier! All of them are really good though. I couldn't be like 'oh, THIS story sucked' or said 'That story just wasn't good... like at all'! So for those who freak out at the first sign of danger, this would be a good one since the lighter stories kinda break it up a little... maybe, I guess?! Im not saying it's super terrifying and omg, you'll be so thankful for a milder story so you have a chance to pull yourself together from all the maddening terror... no! But some people do have a higher tolerance for horror than others. I mean, you can't go being all 'girly' about it and act like you're not expecting to get a little... anxious, if you're reading horror stories, alone, at night! Getting weirded out is kinda the whole point, so just read it! I'm certain most of you will be a-ok!
P.S. my review is meant to describe without spoiling! If I describe a story one way, you'll expect it to be that way, and when you read it, you may not think it's anything at all like I described! That can have a disappointing and deflating effect on you and I won't be responsible for that! You could also be super thrilled it's not like I may have described it and if that's the case, good for you! So I think my review pulls you in to read it, but still leaves you with no real clue as to what's going on... you're welcome!!!
- Reviewed in the United States on November 1, 2020I loved many of the stories within this anthology. I suggest buying it if you love ghosts and witches and all manner of things scary!

5.0 out of 5 stars Babies often scream or cry, though few people ever bat an eye
"Babies often scream or cry, though few people ever bat an eye" - from Jen Ellwyn's, The Figment.
This mystical collection of terror kick-starts with a quote from Macbeth - gotta love that! The book is abundant with fresh talent, Jen Elwyn alone is a well of originality, as her story explores the idea that there is a disturbing world within our own that only babies can see, which explains their bloodcurdling cries. In another is a grand witch with sharpened teeth and eyes as black as oil who leads her coven. There are recurring themes of life, birth and rebirth - most closely relating to mothers. Title font is reminiscent of such horror as The Omen, and there are tales that match Rosemary's Baby in style and tone.
With such a talented coven of authors, it would be blasphemous to NOT peek inside their book of spells... Wouldn't it? A book of terror for all you aspiring witches and warlocks and for those already practiced in the Dark Arts (English literature).
The stories herein are ethereal and spellbinding, but most of all they are a collective of darkness.

5.0 out of 5 stars Spooky, scary read!
What a cool and fantastic idea to band together a bunch of great authors and let them add their piece. I particularly liked reading "The Figment" by Jen Ellywn. I loved her style of writing and her description is very much on point. I was able to imagine things that I hadn't before with her description of demons and vision. I was fascinated and I asked myself after reading - perhaps babies cry because of things that we cannot see, but they can. There's a sense of having no control and muting the warning to merely a cry. There is nothing that any of the characters could do and the twist at the end made the hairs on the back of my neck stay up for five minutes longer. I'd recommend this book.

5.0 out of 5 stars By the Pricking of my Thumbs...
Another great modern horror anthology, showcasing a variety of styles and approaches from some very talented - and potentially disturbed - authors...
