Situation Critical Kindle Edition
A taut debut novel about a wounded soldier, a courageous doctor, and a dog in desperate need of a rescue
Soldier, surgeon, traitor, dog…
When Sergeant Nate Calloway is carried into the field hospital with no memory of how he got there or where the other members of his unit are, Australian army surgeon, Captain Beth Harper cares only about repairing his broken body. But it's clear that something went terribly wrong on the other side of the wire, and as Nate slowly recovers, he becomes more and more anxious to return to duty, go back into the field, and rescue his friends, his unit, and the bomb detection dog that he loves.
The only way Nate can be released to active duty is if a doctor agrees to accompany him, and Beth surprises everyone by volunteering. Her role is to monitor Nate and take him right back to hospital the instant that his health deteriorates enough to put their rescue operation at risk. But as she stays close, she finds herself inexplicably drawn to his courage, his determination, and his commitment to his fellow soldiers.
Instead of a straightforward recovery, however, Nate and Beth soon realise they've stumbled on a tangled web of deceit and danger, and the enemy is no longer outside the wire. He is one of their own, a traitor, and he has them in his scope.

About the author

Raised in suburban Sydney, Australia, as a kid, Amanda loved to escape the bright lights, the hustle and bustle, and visit the home of her mother’s rural roots, deep in Sydney's Blue Mountains, or historical Bathurst - the dusty cattle country from where her father's family hails. The community characters (both human and animal) and glorious landscapes and terrain never failed to capture her imagination (and still do!)
For as long as she can remember, award winning author, Amanda Knight, has been intrigued by the factors that motivate human behaviour, particularly crime... in the wrong hands, her Google research may take some explaining!
In 2017, Amanda’s debut novel, Situation Critical won her the Australian Romance Readers Association Best New Author award, and Australian AusRom Today Best New Romance Author award.
When she's not writing about psychopaths, soldiers and police officers, or love and loss in small town communities, Amanda fills her cup in the field of people and culture development. She spends her days helping people find and be the best version of themselves, and working on her passion project - The Kindness Network - www.thekindnessnetwork.com.au
Amanda lives in a beautiful beachside suburb in Sydney with her husband, three children, a cranky (but still loveable) cat and the most gorgeous golden retriever dog that ever lived.

I'm looking forward to seeing some more work from this author.
A little slow at first on the romance....Beth was obviously attracted to Nate from their first unfortunate encounter.
Nate a little volatile considering what he was going through....but the spark was there.
Not a great love story!
Enjoyed reading this book.
FB
Beth has an instant attraction to Nate even though he was barely conscious. Furthermore she is an Captain and he is a Sergeant several ranks below her and a no-no in the military. On the other hand Nate’s feelings toward Beth, the doctor who has saved his life is understandable.
One has to suspend disbelief that Nate should be capable of going on a gruelling foray into the hostile countryside a few days after surgery and it is even more unbelievable that Beth a non-combatant should be allowed to go with him.
Soldiers in ones and twos go off into hostile territory. Hardly likely.
The action is hard to follow, it is often a series of disjointed sentences. The relationships between the personnel are badly defined.
Technical errors are frequent. GPS is not dependent on cell coverage, soldiers do not address a sergeant as sir, small fighting patrols do not have several sergeants.
Beth and Nate's love story will draw you in and keep you there. What I particularly like about this story is that the author really knew her stuff about Afganistan. The military men, the bond they had. Loved the dog too. Couldn't get enough of him.
Drugs, a traitor and an unscrupulous warlord try to keep these two lovers apart. A riveting read.
