It's the worst day of Laryssa's life when bandits snatch her beloved daughter Sofiya, carrying her away to places unknown. Vowing to save her, come what may, Laryssa sets off on a long and difficult journey to find the eighteen-year-old.
When she stumbles across a half ruined castle in the middle of a forest, she realizes she's found the very place where Sofiya is being held by four men. In desperation, Laryssa begs to be allowed to stay with them, to cook and clean, and even offers her body for use to the leader of the gang, a man called Bhodan. Not knowing who she really is, he grudgingly accepts.
Bhodan is a dark man with a troubled past. With livid scars marring his otherwise handsome features, he is gruff, ruthless, and cold. Somehow Laryssa, the woman he has employed to cook and clean for himself and his men, and to service him sexually whenever he desires it, manages to see past his harsh exterior. Her growing attraction to him is undeniable, and no one is more surprised than Bhodan himself to discover that he is beginning to reciprocate those feelings.
Sofiya is not the only girl to have been captured by the gang; Hanna, a girl close to her in age, was already being held when Sofiya arrived. Laryssa is desperate to rescue them both, but knows she must bide her time until the moment is right.
When the four men decide to leave the women alone to go thieving, Laryssa sees her chance. However, she is unprepared for the emotional dilemma she will face when only one of the men – Bhodan – returns. He is badly wounded, and she finds herself unable to leave him alone, as he will undoubtedly die.
Torn between the love of her daughter and the passion Bhodan has awakened in her, Laryssa faces a tough choice. Should she send Sofiya and Hanna back to their village alone to face their demons, or should she accompany them and risk losing what could well be her last chance of experiencing boundless passion and love after years spent alone? Can she forgive Bhodan for what he has done in the past, or will she decide that her daughter's happiness is more important than her own?

About the author

I write erotic romances as Juliette Banks, but some of you may also know me as the author Rachel de Vine. I am British and live in a beautiful rural part of England. However, I also like travelling to remote and unusual parts of the world, and hope to do so for a long time yet.
I write mainly romances, because I am an incurable romantic, and I write erotic romances because I am always attracted to the sexuality and sensuality that is within so many of us. I like to write about interesting characters who often have to survive life's challenges before they can reach the happy ending they deserve.
I love receiving feedback from my readers about what they liked (or didn't like) about my books, so please contact me. In the meantime, happy reading.

- Reviewed in the United States on September 12, 2016The plot takes the reader on a journey of loss, love, sacrifice and redemption. The story shows a mother’s undying love for her daughter and to what extent she is willing to go to get her back. In the process of finding and trying to save her daughter, she is ready to sacrifice herself just to get near her. When Laryssa’s daughter, Sofiya, is kidnapped by a band of four bandits, she takes off in search of finding her with the hopes of rescuing her. Not only does she find her, but manages to convince the bandits to allow her to cook and clean for them. Sofiya is not the only girl held captive; there is also Hanna. Laryssa keeps her end of the bargain, which includes the cooking and cleaning for the castle, but she also agreed to join Bhodan in his bed. For this widow who had not been with a man since the death of her husband, buried desires and passion will be unleashed. How can the women escape and travel without shoes or money? The story involved kidnap, rape, beatings, and dubious consent. Bhodan does not use Sofiya and Hanna, but he does not share Laryssa with the others either.
- Reviewed in the United States on September 13, 2016I liked this book very much and I found there is much more to the plot than what the description reveals. The story was creative and interesting and incorporated many different elements of BDSM erotica including non-con. References to cruel punishments and harsh treatment created a fear of the captors that was tangible, so part of the book felt very dark. The dark elements were downplayed, however, and although rape was implied, it wasn't described. The heroine, Laryssa, is a strong, intelligent, and brave woman who will do anything to rescue her daughter. I found it odd that given the opportunity to escape, she would consider anything else. Still, I liked her and admired her throughout the book. Bhodan, we are told, is disfigured, ruthless and cold. His character is obviously conflicted, as he turns from tender to uncaring and back again from one day to the next. He undergoes a transformation through the story and although I understood his conflict on some level, there wasn't a lot of depth to his emotions. His feelings for Laryssa, however, were crystal clear and I was able to give him a second chance. The book contained many erotic scenes interwoven into the plot that moved continually and held my interest. It was an easy, enjoyable read.
I received this book from the publisher in exchange for an honest review.
- Reviewed in the United States on October 13, 2016I'm surprised at the reviews that gloss over the fact, that a mother who supposedly loves her daughter would have a dilemma about leaving the man responsible for her daughter's kidnapping and rape, while he did not rape her daughter he did allowed his men to. And it worries me that so many people find this enough of an excuse for there to be a dilemma of who this mother should choose.. as if really good sex should excuse reprehensible behaviour from any one especially when it comes to one's child. Disappointed in my fellow humans, the bar is setting lower and lower.
- Reviewed in the United States on September 13, 2016This is my honest review for my ARC copy. Set in the mid 19th century, this book is about a woman that had a daughter to the love of her life. Upon his death when their daughter was a child, she devoted her life to raising their little girl. One day when Mom returns home she learns that her daughter was kidnapped and taken from her, which devastated her, sending her on a search to find her. She finds a castle in the woods, and her instincts tell her that her search is over. In order to gain entry, she offers her services as a cook and seamstress, and soon realizes her daughter is indeed being held and used by the men inside. In waiting for the right time to save the girls, (there are two captives) she falls for one of the men. It’s a different spin, with twists and turns, but has a HEA.
- Reviewed in the United States on September 15, 2016I was surprised I enjoyed it so much. I really wasn't sure when I read the description, but this book really has a plot I don't think I have ever come across. Because it really is an experience, especially if you are a mother. I won't rehash what has already been explained. The narrative description really does explain her dilemma. What a mother will do for her child, but she also cares about Bhodan. She was good mother who didn't pursue any relationship with a man and then she doesn't see she has a choice. She really sees what she has needed to feel like a woman, but still needs to save her child. What a choice she has to make. I was given this book as an ARC copy for an honest review.

This story has it all. Starting with a mom whose daughter just got kidnapped by thugs. She will stop at nothing to get her daughter back even if that means cooking and getting in bed with one of the thugs. Will she be able to rescue her daughter before she loses her heart to the leader of the thugs. Please read this story you wont be dissapointed oh and its historical romance theyre the best :-)
- Reviewed in the United States on September 12, 2016This Story is very much about how much a mother would do for her child but also how much a good person will do for anyone. A very rough tale about abduction and abuse as well as tenderness and need. There is spanking, explicit sex and rape. The harsher parts are glossed over a bit, while the softer side of Bhodan definitely shows through. Laryssa has a very tough road to go down trying to balance her needs and wants with Bhodan against her daughters safety and welfare. I really liked the ending although towards the end it dragged a little.
- Reviewed in the United States on September 13, 2016I received this book for an honest review. I really liked the story line. It was well written and held my attention. Though I prefer my stories to be a bit longer, it was still a good read.

5.0 out of 5 stars Really enjoyed this book
Really enjoyed this book, wasn't too sure on it after reading the blurb, but it didn't go in to much detail about what happened to the girls whilst being kidnapped and in all was a thoroughly enjoyable romance.
