Martin Alcott, an out of work IT Engineer, can't shake his recurring nightmares of skyscrapers and cathedrals. This morning's dream was different, though: he's now certain he's being watched. Halfway up London's newest high-rise, Martin arrives promptly for his first job interview in weeks, only to find the office empty in more ways than one.

Meanwhile, The Duchess, a powerful and enigmatic woman, sits at her desk high in her tower mansion. A panicked phone call alerts her to a deviation in her meticulous plan, and she sees a stranger on her security cameras. She's stunned to realize...

I've seen that face before.

A thrill ride fusing suspense, technology, and a touch of the supernatural with cheeky humor and heart, The Duchess and the Accidental Thief is the debut novel from author Scott A. Clark.

Scott A. Clark failed English 101 twice and somehow managed to become an author, winning Twin Tales Publishing's 2022 Indie Author of the Year award. When he's not writing, he can't stay out of the clouds: technology, meteorology, and watching aviation videos. Fun fact: Scott believed the entire state of Missouri was fictional until he was nine.

A read that felt like a mix of Oceans Eleven, with a dash of James Bond and femme fatale and an interesting paranormal twist. Great pacing, fun to read, and I was happily surprised that some pieces fell into place differently than I initially expected. Looking forward to the next book in the series!

Clark takes readers on a most unexpected journey in The Duchess and the piece with elements of paranormal and nearly sci-fi techie elements neatly blended in it.

Initially, I did find it difficult to keep up with the characters of the story, as there are multiple key players. The characters were down to earth and relatable. I would love to have had even more character development, not because it was inadequate in the narrative necessarily, but because I truly enjoyed getting to know them. It left me wanting more. I hear there is a sequel in the making, so perhaps we will get to know this cast even better.

Side note. I absolutely love a morally grey female character.

I would definitely recommend and am here for the sequel.

What a treat from a debut author! This book reads like if The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo had been written by Douglas Adams. Intrigue and cheeky humor go together seamlessly as the story unfolds rapidly to its satisfying (and shocking!) conclusion. There are tons of really unique characters that form a kind of Scooby gang, so the interplay between them makes for some great dialogue. Definitely highly recommend this one!

This book will take you to places you likely haven't been before. While it is based in the real world, there is a touch of paranormal and a super smart technological twist. The writing is witty, fun and full of heart.

The characters are relatable, down to earth, and the author makes it feel like someone you know or want to know. Martin is such a real tangible character that most anyone can identify with in his life struggles. Meeting Her just throws his life for a loop and man the story really takes off from there.

It has all the hallmarks of a thriller with a great bad guy that you will love to hate and a lot of smart action. A very unexpected "scooby gang". And some of the characters you meet aren't quite what they seem. This is the great start to a new series that will having you waiting for the next book when you finish it!

So if you are looking for something new that is smart, savvy and fun with a twist of the fantastical, then this is for you.
