Wander World Kindle Edition

4.9 out of 5 stars 44 ratings

Up up, and away!

Boredom doesn't always have to be bad.

When a bored young girl persuades her sleepy grandpa to take a journey with her, they embark on an imaginative adventure. Together, they wander around the world visiting each of the seven continents, right from the living room couch!

Because sometimes, boredom is the birthplace of creativity.

With lyrical language and charming watercolor art,
Wander World captures the beauty of a relationship between grandchild and grandparent, the importance of imagination, and the wonderful things you can do when you're bored.

Editorial Reviews

From the Author

As a young girl, I spent most of my pre-school years with my grandparents and great aunt. Being an 80's kid, television was limited and the internet wasn't available. Which meant I spent a lot of my time alone, left to roam from room to room looking for something to do. Most of that time I wandered, imagining, drawing, coloring, or singing while my grandmother cooked and cleaned, and my great aunt busied herself. Sometimes, when everyones chores were complete, we would all sit outside and swing, or pitch pennies.

It was my grandpa, child at heart as he was, that would spend the most time with me. I vividly remember our trips to the library, learning how to garden, singing silly songs, playing hide and seek, and of course, taking imaginative adventures. One of my favorite memories was when we would "take a trip", a game where we would sit on the couch and I would narrate our journey as he patiently played along. It was something I looked forward to when we spent time together.

Fast forward to my teen years, and he would always encourage me to write and illustrate, but my own insecurities always seemed to get in the way. Then there was life. College, marriage, kids, and an art teaching career took me to 2020, when the world slowed down just a bit. It was then I rediscovered my passion for both writing and illustrating, and knew my first book should pay homage to the person who inspired it all.

When I look back at my childhood, I remember it as nothing less than magical, and I owe a great part of that to my grandparents, Stanley and Kathryn Badowski.

Katie Gigliotti has been crafting stories and drawing pictures for as long as she can remember.

She is fortunate to be the bestselling author and illustrator of several children's books. In addition, she also takes on author clients to bring life to their books through her illustrations.

Like her grandfather before her, Katie is a true child at heart, and wishes more than anything that her stories and pictures will inspire young minds to dream, hope, wish, love, and wonder.

When she's not creating, you can find her gazing at a beautiful sunrise, enjoying the quiet of snow falling, soaking in sweet summer sun rays, or lost in her imagination.

She lives in a small Virginia town where she spends most of her time with her husband and two teenage children, who are too embarrassed to be mentioned here.

I bought this book to share with my third grade students who are learning about the continents. My 2 year old asked me to read it to him and instantly fell in love with the story and illustrations. You know it's good when they ask to hear it a second time. I immediately had to order another copy for at home. I really enjoyed it as an adult too.

I enjoyed the book very much. As a world traveller I liked the places mentioned and what the author included in each place. She highlighted popular attractions and made it magical.

I particularly loved the illustrations. They. were creative, soft and warm. Like the author, I'm an art teacher too and appreciated the art on each page.
