- Reviewed in the United States on February 17, 2023This is such a good book to read to the little girls in your life! It teaches them about loving who you are and that it's okay to be different. Something that's very hard to find nowadays. Girls are shown at a young age that you have to look a certain way. This story teaches girls that's not true and speaks beautifully about finding self love and worth, which is much needed in today's society! Very well done!
- Reviewed in the United States on May 11, 2022When I first saw this book, I HAD to get it for my 3yo daughter! This precious story shows Little Nikki's journey to loving herself again after school friends leave her with doubts about her self-worth. My daughter was totally engaged in the story, loved the message, the illustrations and the main character - who looks like her and comes from a small island too! It has since had her, and her brother, chanting "I love myself"! This is definitely a book that needs to be in every child's library for those times that they need a little reminder to love themselves.
- Reviewed in the United States on August 6, 2023Little Nicki experiences some bullying and starts to lose her natural glow and light. She learns self love and affirmations.
- Reviewed in the United States on June 13, 2023This book is about one of "the talks" children need to receive to live wholesome lives. I titled this sometimes family isn't sufficient because even though her family was loving and supportive the main character still went their feelings. The topic of changes is presented in a tactful and entertaining manner. The lovely illustrations help convey the feelings and messages of the author, Nicole Marshall.
Based on the name of the character, subject matter and writing style it's not hard to believe this might be autobiographical. If this is so, it might explain why the author was able to capture the emotions on such a deep level while keeping it simple to understand. It bought to mind my own rapid development in 5th grade and that of a Caucasian girl.
This book is a great preparation tool for live changes and a comfort for children who maybe experiencing similar feelings and events. I hope the writer produces more fun stories like this.

- Reviewed in the United States on January 17, 2022This is a well-written and beautifully illustrated book that teaches children to love themselves, and shows them a way to build confidence in themselves. Nikki is excited to go to school and make friends. And soon she is able to make friends to play with. But, over time, Nikki changes - she’s taller and more mature looking than her friends and they start to make fun of her. This makes Nikki sad. Then, she figures out a way to change how she feels about herself and gain her confidence and self-esteem back.

5.0 out of 5 stars An inspiring tale that many people can relate to.
Little Nikki is a lovely story about how a positive attitude can overcome problems. I'm a school teacher and I have noticed some of my students experience similar situations. This book could help them feel more optimistic. I'm sure many people can relate to the story. This book encourages young people who are going through bad times that things will get better.
The illustrations are beautiful and fitting for the story.
I highly recommend this book for parents whose children might be struggling with a problem at school.

4.0 out of 5 stars Let your light shine through.
This is a lovely little picture book encouraging children to love themselves. Little Nikki is a bright joyful little girl, but when she gets to school she finds out that everyone is very different. She grows faster than the other girls and boys and they begin to mock her. Making fun of her looks. But with help from a book the teacher gave her slowly, she begins to change and love the skin she is in. Worth checking out.
