4.6 out of 5 stars 21 ratings

Il Lupo is a supernatural thriller set against a backdrop of the stresses of modern life and the human condition.
When Nick Frobisher's father reveals he is dying, Nick reconnects with his old friend Charlie Mortimer. Now wracked with grief, Nick invites Charlie to join him on a trip to the Amalfi Coast in Italy.
When they arrive, it becomes clear that Charlie is suffering with anxiety and panic attacks, yet a self-medicating Frobisher steers them into harm's way. Bar fights, a night in the cells, drunken behaviour, and Charlie's anxiety only increases. Just when it seems things can't go much worse, they do, as Nick and Charlie find themselves confronting a man who is believed to be a werewolf. This man's name is Telemaco Russo, and wherever he goes, trouble follows.
Now, with the full moon approaching, Charlie must find a way to protect those he loves, and save his own soul - but first, he must take on Telemaco, and somehow survive the experience.
Il Lupo takes us to some of the most breathtaking locations imaginable, from the extraordinary beauty of the Amalfi Coast, to the rugged Highlands of Scotland, and the incredible ruins of Pompeii in the shadow of the brooding Mount Vesuvius.
Follow in the footsteps of Charlie and Frobisher as they face up to the stresses of modern life and a curse as ancient as the hills.

Editorial Reviews

From the Back Cover

Charlie Mortimer and Nick Frobisher met at university and soon became best friends. But after university, life intervened and they lost touch for years. With the advent of social media platforms, Nicholas Frobisher located Charlie and they reconnected and then met in person.
But Nicholas had just lost his father, and that bereavement stirred up feelings he had not addressed at the time of his mother's death. For his part, Charlie was a successful writer but lived a circumscribed life, carefully managing every aspect to make sure he never suffered or that his world was never upset or challenged. He believed this was the way to live.
On the spur of the moment, Nick Frobisher invited Charlie to accompany him on something of a pilgrimage to the Amalfi Coast, in Naples, Italy, a place Nick frequented with his wealthy parents when he was a young boy.
But the two friends encounter far more than they had bargained for as ancient legends take on life once more.

About the Author

Gregory Alexander Sharp is a professional services executive who has worked for some of the world's best known tech and consulting companies. He's always been something of a storyteller, and a huge fan of the supernatural tales that made his spine tingle as a boy.
Il Lupo, his first published novel, draws on Greg's love for the classic Hollywood horror movies (think Bela Lugosi, Lon Chaney Jnr, and of course, Boris Karloff), but also on his own personal experiences with loss, and grief, and anxiety. Woven together with a real sense of pace, building tension and jeopardy, and with a smattering of Greg's sense of humour, Il Lupo is the first book he has always wanted to write.
Book two coming soon.

GREGORY ALEXANDER SHARP is a professional services executive who has worked for some of the world's best known tech and consulting companies. He's always been something of a storyteller, and a huge fan of the supernatural tales that made his spine tingle as a boy. Greg is also a multi-published author, podcaster, and voice actor.

Novels:

IL LUPO, his first published novel, draws on Greg's love for the classic Hollywood horror movies (think Bela Lugosi, Boris Karloff, and of course, Lon Chaney Jnr), but also on his own personal experiences with loss, and grief, and anxiety. Woven together with a real sense of building tension and jeopardy, and with a smattering of Greg's sense of humour, Il Lupo is the first book he always wanted to write.

KILL AND CURE builds on the themes from Il Lupo and drives them ever further, with Nick Frobisher struggling to manage the stresses of work, grief, and his best friend's lycanthropy. We are introduced to gangsters and vampires, and we reconnect with familiar characters. Kill And Cure has been written in such a way that it can be read as a sequel to Il Lupo, or can easily stand alone as a distinct story.

Short-stories:

THE BRIDGE, which touches on how adult problems can easily cause damage to teenagers in the home. Again, Greg brings personal experiences to the fore here. In less than four thousand words, we are introduced to a broken heart, a disrupted education, bullying, public humiliation, the perils of social media, and mental health problems... oh, and watch out for the ghost!

THE TRAPDOOR is set in post-war Britain, where young Billy lives on a street in which the bombed remnants of house Number Seven hold much fascination. The other children are afraid to go into the ruins which were once the home of the mysterious Mr. Smith, but not Billy, he is a brave boy. One dark night, Billy decides to explore the ruins by himself, convinced that he will be able to hear echoes from the past.

Podcasts:

A SERIAL [KILLER] DRAMA: WEREWOLF THE PODCAST is a weekly serial drama following the adventures of Wil the Werewolf and his wolf-soul/alter-ego, Fen. This is Fenrir Thorvaldsen's show, and Greg voice-acts a number of the characters, including Simon - The Professor, and William Marshal. Additionally, Greg was invited to collaborate on writing the show, and personally wrote and acted in episode 145 - Oh, What A Knight, and many more besides. Available for free on Amazon and Audible.

POD BY THE FIRESIDE. Also available for free on Amazon and Audible, there are a number of shows taking a deep dive into werewolves in mythology and folklore, culture, movies, and fiction. You can also hear interviews with authors Fenrir Thorvaldsen, and Adrien Lopez, as well as Greg delivering readings from his own work and being interviewed by Fenrir. It's a must for lycanthrope lovers.

Greg is currently working on a new novel which promises to be a tale of friendship, betrayal, love, loss, and revenge! Watch this space.

A Truly Classic Horror Story from Time Gone By!
4 out of 5 stars
A Truly Classic Horror Story from Time Gone By!
Il Lupo by Gregory Alexander Sharp is an old-fashioned Gothic style horror and psychological mind twist readers were used to reading close to a century ago. As readers go through IL Lupo, authors such as dDaphne du Maurier, Mary Shelley, Bram Stoker, Alfred Hitchcock, and plenty more will run through their minds. Mr. Sharp starts his story off letting readers know exactly what is going on, only the main is in denial, thinking what he knows to be true can't possibly be the truth, such things only exist in stories and nightmares. After taking the readers back a few days to see what transpired and get caught up in the current events, Mr. Sharp finally has the main character and his best friend come to the realization he is in fact, a werewolf. It's the best friend's Godfather who convinces them he knows some people who can help him get a cure to turn him back into a human, sending them back on a journey to Italy, and along the Amalfi Coast where the entire situation started, so they can find the werewolf that turned the main character into one himself. Only things don't go according to plan, and their entire plan has to change, endangering more than just the main character. Il Lupo, while exceedingly well written and thought out, might take some time for people get into due to the style of writing. While it is a Gothic style story, the writing itself is almost written in the style of Jane Austen, and for those readers who are not familiar with her work, might find Mr. Sharp's book a little on the slow side. If the reader is familiar with the writing of Ms. Austen's era, or just really happens to love a good, old-fashioned horror, IL Lupo is most definitely a book to give a whole hearted chance to.

    IL LUPO
    Author Gregory Alexander Sharp
    Humorous Supernatural Fiction Tale
    Horror/Mystery Story

This is a five star story! IL Lupo is a well written, professionally edited book.

The story held my interest from beginning to end. I stood up to 12:35 A.M. because it held my interest so.
The descriptive scenery of Italy was fantastic! I was made to feel I was in Italy. As for the pick pocketers, they can be found anywhere in the world. (One must never let down his or her guard.)

As for the horrifying adventures Charlie and Nicholas Frobisher went through involving Telemaco, the werewolf, it will leave you sitting on the edge of your seat as it did me. What Charlie and Nicholas go thru is unbelievable. Charlie and Nicholas are lucky to have the help of Ernest, a professor, who is knowledgeable in this area. Ernest is also Godfather to Nicholas and a friend of Charlie.

When Charlie and Nicholas are in deep trouble of losing their souls to the werewolf, Ernest brings them to be helped by the very skillful and knowledgeable Agatha and her son Garrow. Charlie needs the blood of Telemaco while the werewolf is still alive. Nicholas, Ernest, and two Italians Fredo and his daughter Maria set out to help Charlie. The challenge is botched. They got Telemaco's blood while he was still alive but Telemaco dies before the vial of blood is used.

Well Charlie is in a mess and Nicholas now has his own problems. (I'd hate to be in their shoes!) Back to Agatha and Garrow Charlie, Nicholas, and Ernest go hoping they can be helped. Nicholas gets help for himself. (For a time, I forgot about Charlie and how he will be helped. Near the end of the story I remember Garrow spoke of a vampire. You figure it out or read the book.)

A mention of Ernest's dead wife was brought up. Ernest mentioned how his wife and he had a passion for the same studies. (I can't help but wonder if Ernest's wife might be the opening to Book Two.)

Il Lupo by Gregory Alexander Sharp is a masterful blend of psychological depth and supernatural horror, skillfully combining ancient folklore with the complexities of modern life. This character-driven thriller, reminiscent of classics like Frankenstein and Dracula, centers on two old friends, Nick Frobisher and Charlie Mortimer. After Nick’s father’s death, the friends journey to the Amalfi Coast seeking solace but instead find themselves ensnared in an ancient curse and a confrontation with Telemaco Russo, a man believed to be a werewolf.

    Book review: Il Lupo
Sharp's use of an omniscient narrator is brilliant, shifting perspectives seamlessly to build an ever-deepening sense of suspense. This narrative technique enhances the pacing and ensures tension remains high, even as the story shifts direction. The real strength of Il Lupo lies in its exploration of grief, the fragility of the human psyche, and the complex dynamics of friendship. Nick, spiraling into self-destruction, and Charlie, battling anxiety, are portrayed with such depth and empathy that they never feel like mere caricatures.

The suspense builds gradually, like a fuse burning toward an inevitable explosion. By the time the midpoint climax arrives, it’s almost cinematic in its intensity, gripping the reader tightly. Sharp’s approach to horror, relying more on psychological tension than blood and gore, makes the supernatural elements feel even more chilling and personal. The clues to the mystery are woven subtly throughout the text, rewarding attentive readers with a richer experience.

The novel's settings, from the breathtaking Amalfi Coast to the eerie ruins of Pompeii, add layers of atmosphere and mythology, making the world feel alive and steeped in history. The blend of gothic horror and modern sensibilities makes Il Lupo feel timeless yet fresh, a rare book that stays with you long after you’ve turned the last page.

With its compelling characters, slow-building suspense, and thought-provoking exploration of fate, Il Lupo is a must-read for fans of intelligent thrillers with supernatural twists, classic horror, and psychological horror. I highly recommend reading Il Lupo before its sequel, Kill and Cure: Il Lupo 2.0, to fully appreciate the depth of the characters and their journey. A gripping, intelligent thriller that earns 5/5 stars.

Il Lupo is a superbly written psychological thriller that drew me inexorably into a fearful world of ancient curses, local superstition, and werewolves. I was fascinated by the skillful employment of hypnosis as a memory recall tool , one which I utilized from time to time in my career. The story is intense, complex, and thought-provoking. Could werewolves, or some lycanthropic manifestation of them be real? Throughout this wonderfully crafted tale, Author Sharp keeps you wondering about the existence of such a phenomenon. You need to read this book to discover if you believe.......or not. I enjoyed the author's description of locales in Italy and England which dramatically set the stage for different situations and events. Gregory Alexander Sharp has created a gripping Thriller/Horror novel I would love to see made into a movie. Five Stars!

Good story, some interesting and original plot points
    Characters are pretty well done.
But the authoe needs to learn to show more and tell less, the introspection of the characters had me skipping parts so often due to how repetitive and boring they became.

5.0 out of 5 stars Absolutely brilliant!

This book was fantastic! I was transfixed from the very start.
It started with Two old friends who met at university and bonded well and both graduated with top marks.
Charlie and Nicholas went there separate ways to then be reunited around 15 years later.
Frobisher had previously lost his mother and most recently his father to cancer.
Nicholas persuaded his old friend to go on an un-organised trip to Italy where nicks family had been going for years.
They hit bumps along the way and ended up coming face to face with something that most people would only read about in horror stories.
I won't give any more away and just tell you this book is well worth it!

A great read that I genuinely found difficult to put down. I am one of those readers with several books on the go; rarely is that stopped to finish one. Il Lupo was one of them.

The plot is paced so well that we are drawn in but not overwhelmed—a difficult thing to do.

I am looking forward to the next one.

This is a genuine page turner. Excellent, pacey plot, well developed characters and highly evocative descriptions of some wonderful locations. If you like supernatural stories this is for you. Its a very well written debut from Mr Sharp. I look forward to the next in the series.
