I was born on the Wirral in 1948. I attended St. Aidan's Private school in Wallasey until I was eleven. A casualty of the 'eleven plus' exam syndrome, I finished a somewhat sketchy education at a secondary modern school. I have been married to my wife Susan for forty-nine years. We have four sons, seven grandchildren and live in the Isle of Man.
I gained my love of history after reading A Child's History of England by Charles Dickens. Since then I have read many non-fiction books on Anglo Saxon history. My favourite authors range from Tolkien to Bernard Cornwell and Thomas Hardy.
