About

I am also the author of a few nonfiction books, including Ritalin Nation (1999) and The Cult of Pharmacology (2005). My freelance articles and essays have appeared in The Sciences, Los Angeles Times, New York Times, AlterNet, Reason, The Nation, and Cerebrum.

Scholarly and scientific papers of mine have appeared in a wide range of fields, from pharmacology and economics to psychology, political science, and philosophy.

Before hitting the shores of NZ, I lived in Vancouver, BC, where I learned glass blowing and was a senior editor at the “magazine of the mental environment,” Adbusters.

I have lived in Auckland for almost twenty years.

When I’m not sitting around writing fiction, I work with plants and do ceramics (MonsterPots).

You can see my writing laboratory on instagram at @emporium.hq.
