I love this author!

Where does Lie or Die rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

It was great, one of my favorites!

Which character – as performed by Wendy Tremont King – was your favorite?

Wendy has become Shelby by now for me, I wasn't sure what I thought of this narrator at first but now I can see no other person narrating

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

It made me laugh, as all of the Shelby Nichols adventures do!

Any additional comments?

From the very first Shelby Nichols book I listened to I was hooked. They just keep getting better and better. As soon as I think I have found my favorite one, I listen to another and it becomes my favorite. I highly recommend these novels!

They don't call him Joey 'the knife' for nothing

Would you consider the audio edition of Lie or Die to be better than the print version?

It's different, I really like both editions for different reasons! I really enjoyed listening to Lie or Die, cause you get a great feel for the characters, and Wendy Tremont King does a great job making each character stand out.

What did you like best about this story?

It's a mystery, I liked the way they all had to figure out who was the real threat.

Have you listened to any of Wendy Tremont King’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

Yes, I've listened to all of the previous Shelby Nichols adventures. This one is great, it's definitely on par with the rest!

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Since I had read the book previously I wanted to sit back and listen at my leisure, so that I could fully enjoy how the story unfolded.

Any additional comments?

This was a great book, I highly recommend it!

Lie or Die is Fabulous!

Would you consider the audio edition of Lie or Die to be better than the print version?

I read Lie or Die before I listened to it and I loved it both times. It's hard for me to say which I enjoyed more, but it was fun to go on walks and workout while listening to the book! I can't walk my dogs and read, but I can certainly walk and listen! Wendy does a great job narrating, so that makes it very easy to listen to.

What did you like best about this story?

I honestly didn't know how Shelby would get out of the mess Uncle Joey got her into. This is a fun, funny read and I loved listening to it! I love all the characters in this story. I love reading books that take me away from my real life and let me forget about all my worries. I definitely got lost in the world of Shelby Nichols!

Which character – as performed by Wendy Tremont King – was your favorite?

I really like Shelby. I think Wendy has that character's voice down pat. :)

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes, even though that wasn't possible!

Any additional comments?

This is an awesome series whether you listen to it, or read it! I love these books!!!!!

Great mystery

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Yes, it was funny, well-developed, and kept me engaged.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Shelby or Uncle Joey, both characters were dynamic and entertaining.

Any additional comments?

Starting a new agency can be tough, especially when you can read minds. Shelby Nichols’ first official case as a consultant is to find a bank’s missing stolen money. Her only clue, before the thief was killed by his partner, is that its hidden in a box or drawer of underwear. When Uncle Joey calls wanting her help with promoting one of his men, she discovers that his temporary head of security seems to already know who she is, but he’ s never worked for Uncle Joey before. To top it all off, someone is threatening her husband to lose his case; the same person who is trying to kill Uncle Joey, take Shelby for themselves, and take over the business. Will Shelby survive her latest cases or will she end up dead?

The characters are charming, likable, and well-developed and narrator, Wendy Tremont King’s unique, lively voices make her the ideal narrator for this book. Transitions between internal and external dialogue is easily distinguishable and adds a bit of humor into the novel. Her narrative style is crisp, clear, and easily transitions between the different scenes of the story. This action-packed, well-developed story will not disappoint fans of the other Shelby Nichols adventures or listeners who like funny mysteries like Janet Evanovich.

a fun series

The third installment of Helme's series that features Shelby Nichols, Lie or Die, has Shelby in the middle of yet another kerfuffle...to our delight.

I’ve enjoyed this series mostly for the humor and the utterly honest and likable character of Shelby: if she were withholding or dishonest, or not truly invested in making things “right”, this story would not work as well. And, you have to appreciate her dedication to her husband Chris, and their continued efforts to communicate and deal with Shelby’s particular and peculiar new ‘gift’: their relationship has its ups and downs that are honestly portrayed and feel possible.

In this book Shelby has decided to use her ability to ‘hear’ what people think to start her own business. Her first client is a bank that was robbed, and she has the germ of a clue to start tracking down the culprit. Of course, the bank that has hired her has no idea of her gift, merely believing that she has premonitions and has worked with the police to bring others to justice.

Again, Shelby is narrated to great effect by Wendy Tremont King, and she has managed to keep the nuances that inform the character’s voices and Shelby’s internal monologue steady and utterly distinct. Her voice brings Shelby to life, and what continues to amaze me is that she apparently has no issues with crafting the other character voices to sound similar (if not exactly the same) as in earlier works. A true asset to this series – audio listeners need not worry about the feel of the characters in this narration.

I do have to take a moment to express my extreme sympathies for Chris, the long-suffering husband and ultimately best cheerleader for Shelby, even when she has pushed him to the edge by being reckless, or waiting to tell him of pending issues because she tries to sort them herself. I can’t imagine being with someone who can hear your every thought, even those that are fleeting, and he deserves kudos for not completely freaking out at every moment, and being willing to discuss the questions that Shelby has when she overhears (inadvertently or not) his thoughts.

If you want a fun series that has some twisty if not overly complex mysteries, characters to enjoy and moments to laugh, this is the story for you.

I received an AudioBook copy from the publisher for purpose of honest review. I was not compensated for this review: all conclusions are my own responsibility.

Collen Helme does it again.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

It was hard to put it down once I got started.

Any additional comments?

Helme's first 2 books were a good read, but I think Lie or Die is were she really found her stride. I found myself getting more and more suck into Shelby's world. It was hard to put it down once I got started.

Loving this serious!

What made the experience of listening to Lie or Die the most enjoyable?

This is the third in the serious and I am still enjoying the overlapping plots, the characters and the humor. It's a very good read or listen. Get it!
