Kris Nacole Interview On 13, Jun 2016

"Kris Nacole writes gripping romances while avoiding cliches and heavily lading them with reality. She became an author because she could not bear when a story ended and soon realised that the only way to cure the melancholia that grips her after a story ends is to write stories of her own. She cares deeply for her readers as she addresses herself as a reader first and foremost. Thus, we have an author who promises that she will keep telling stories without greed or expectations simply because it is needed. For herself as well as her readers. "
Short bio or SYNOPSIS here on writing as your passion.

Kris Nacole writes romance novels with well-developed and passion-driven characters who all come to life bearing pure and raw emotions. She holds nothing back when it comes to her writing and believes that the best love stories are the ones that each reader can truly feel and relate to as they're reading. Each character breathes life to every page. Love stories aren't always unicorns and rainbows, and she flawlessly shows through her writing just how tough relationships can be, all while still delivering hope by showing it's not impossible to overcome even the biggest of obstacles if you trust in yourself and fully open and follow your heart. Her debut novel, "Love Him Back," is a military romance and it earned her International Bestselling Author status on Amazon. Kris recently signed a contract with Limitless Publishing and her novel, "Love Him Back," will be republished through them this fall.

How long have you been writing and what inspired you to do it seriously?

When I was younger, I kept a journal. That's about as far as my love for writing went, growing up. In high school and college, I hated writing. Honestly, I never imagined myself being a writer and especially not being a published author. It wasn't until 2014 when I sat down after reading "The Last Song" and was so disappointed it had ended. I wanted it to continue on forever because I was so invested and fell in love with each character. Sometimes I felt silly when I'd catch myself laughing, crying, or sighing along with the characters, but I remember thinking to myself how amazing it must feel for an author when they write a story so gripping that it emotionally invests each person like he made me. I wanted to write a story that would make my readers feel the same way his made me feel. After that, I was introduced by a mutual friend to an amazing author, Melanie Dawn, who is now a dear friend of mine. We talked for hours and that poor woman was hounded by a million questions from me about how to publish a book, but she was a good sport and encouraged me to go for it. She was with me every step of the way as my mentor to ensure I had the best experience and I'll be forever thankful to her for that. After her encouragement and some extra pushes from my kids and family, I went for it and published a year later.

When choosing a name for your characters, what do you consider about them that determines what you finally call them?

I love this question because I'm not really sure how to properly answer it. I do start with the names of characters in my book, but they don't always stay that way. For example, I had originally selected the name Kailyn for my main female character in "Love Him Back," but every time I wrote her name I kept imagining a blond, city-girl type of character, not the country-girl that the main character was, so I changed it to Chesney and that name fit perfectly. I'm actually using the name Kailyn for a character in my second book, which I'll talk about later in the interview. In other words, I guess you can say that my characters name themselves sometimes and I have nothing to do with it.

Did you have a collection in mind when you were writing?

No. Personally, I enjoy reading standalone novels over series', and I especially don't care for cliffhangers. Of course, there's nothing wrong with either of those, it's just not my preference. I have read many book series' and loved them, but I can't write them. I think I'm good at writing stand-alones with HEAs, so I never thought of writing a series or collection of books.

How did you choose which stories to write and in what order?

I had a few story ideas floating around in my head to write, but I knew my debut novel, "Love Him Back," would be my first. I'm passionate about the military and the struggles of military life and the toll it takes on relationships. If any love story can portray how powerful love can be, it's a military love story. Most people will never know the struggle of maintaining a strong relationship while dealing with the military life. It's hands down one of the biggest struggles a relationship can go through.

Do you have a “reader” in mind when you write stories?

Yes, myself. I know this may sound a little unorthodox to some, but in reality, I write stories based on my own love for romance novels. I think it's important for any writer to remember themselves as a reader above anything else. I always imagine myself as a reader of my own book and try to imagine how each scene will make the reader feel. Then, I ask myself, if that's something that would grab their attention and make them feel the emotion as a reader. Because I write romance most of my readers are women. However, because it also deals with military, deployments, and PTSD, I've had a lot of men who've surprisingly said they loved it, as well. Also, I think by having a book with a female and male POV really helps a lot with reaching a wider audience.

What do you do to get book reviews? What is the best review you ever got?

I don't think an author can really "do" anything to get reviews. I mean, sure, we all hope that our readers will leave a review after reading, but the truth is, most people do not and we can't make them. I've participated in blog tours for reviews and also have giveaways every now and then with the hopes that readers will read and review, but the rest is up to the reader. I wish there was some magical way to get everyone who reads my book to leave a review.

What does the word “story” mean to you?

"Story" to me means transforming a single idea into a fictional setting, bringing each character to life on every page. It's words on paper that helps you escape from reality and live through each character for a moment.

What are you working on now?

I just finished my second book, "Hart of Country," and I'm working on finishing up "Her Biggest Mistake," which is a novella based on Erik from "Love Him Back". Both are standalone's, though, so you don't have to read "Love Him Back" to follow "Her Biggest Mistake". After "Her Biggest Mistake" is finished and all edits are done, I'm going to be working on a Romantic Suspense novel (no title yet).

Do you have a special time to write or how is your day structured?

Unfortunately, I'm not able to write full time, so I write whenever I'm able. Usually, it's late at night after my kids go to bed, or on weekends. My dream is to one day be able to write full time and publish two books per year.

How do you promote your work? How does Quotesrain help you with your book promotions and sales? Would you refer this platform to your author friends?

I generally promote my work through social media groups and my website www.krisnacole.com. I also have an amazing street team (My Kris' Kisses) who works very hard to promote me as much as possible. Other than that, most of the promotions are done through readers and bloggers/friends/supporters sharing my info. My author page is always being tagged in posts from people who loved my book and then I get more readers based on others posting about it. It's kind of like a domino effect. I'm so thankful for my readers and supporters because without them I wouldn't be able to continue doing what I love. They're what gives me the drive to continue writing. Quotesrain has been amazing at helping me promote my book. I love the featured profile the site offers as well as the scheduled posts and teasers I can make for my book. It's a great tool to have. Also, Quotesrain is always so great at re-sharing and tweeting things to help gain exposure. I'd definitely refer friends to Quotesrain.

Would you like to share something with your readers and fans?

I'm so thankful for my readers and I appreciate each and every post, message, email, re-share, tweet, comment, like, review, and anything else my readers do for me. Without them, I wouldn't have the drive I need to continue following my dreams by putting out more novels. They motivate me and I never want to let them down. I never in a million years would've guessed that so many people would fall in love with my characters the way they did. Hearing how invested they were while reading it and seeing the reaction spread across social media has been amazing. This entire journey wouldn't be happening right now without my readers. I want to say thank you to my Kris' Kisses and all of my friends/supporters/readers who take time out of their day each day to help promote me or my work. I've worked really hard to get where I am today, but I know for a fact I didn't do it all alone. I had a huge group of people standing with me throughout this entire journey and most of them are still hanging on for the ride. A heartfelt THANK YOU to all of my readers for being the best EVER! I love y'all! Now, let's see what the next year will bring. xoxo
