BIOGRAPHY

Elaine, or Lainey, as she prefers, was born in Queens, New York and grew up on Long Island. She graduated from Florida State College in Jacksonville with an Associate of Arts degree. She began her professional writing career in 2014, at the age of 51, with her first novella, Tatiana’s Chance and has since added several books to that series. Lainey enjoys writing romance, inspiration, and poetry that touch the lives of women. Most of her characters are in the 30-60-year old range and her hope is to remind women that they are beautiful, sensual beings, no matter their age or station in life. Her message to her readers is simply this: Live each day to the fullest! Life is not over at some magical number. We do not have to be relegated to the porch rocking chair or the senior center just because we get our AARP card in the mail. Being old is a state of mind but LIVING bold is also a state of mind. We can each write our own story.

Lainey is a mother of three daughters and a grandmother. She lives and writes in Florida and is available for speaking/reading engagements. Her books are available on Amazon.

She also enjoys writing short stories, inspiration and poetry that touch the lives of mature women. Thanks, E.G. Weeks for gracing us with your presence."
Kindly tell us something about yourself?

I am a native of Long Island New York but I have been living in Florida for the last twenty-five years, raising my three daughters. I am an avid reader, a passion that my father and I have always shared.

How long have you been writing and what inspired you to do it seriously?

I began writing about five years ago, mostly as a form of self-therapy. I began writing poetry which led to short stories. My friends loved my short stories so much that I began writing them as a few different series. Eventually the idea to link them together was born and my first novel began to form.

When choosing a name for your characters, what are the factors you consider about them which determines what you finally call them?

My characters come to life and develop on the pages. Their personalities must be individual so my reader connects with them. Their names are important for these reasons. I don’t want them to be remembered simply for what they do but for who they are. While I also don’t want them remembered for a completely off-the-wall name, I do want their names to be recognizable and easy to pronounce across many cultures.

Do you have a “reader” in mind when you write stories?

As a matter of fact, I do and that’s very specific. I write specifically with the forty-year old and older woman in mind. I want my writing to touch the lives of these mature women. Women tend to have confidence and identity issues regarding their appearance. My hope is to remind them that they are beautiful, sensual beings, no matter their age or station in life. I don't believe that life is over at some magical number. Women over forty do not have to be relegated to the porch rocking chair or the senior center just because the AARP card came in the mail. Being old is a state of mind but being bold is also a state of mind. We can choose our own destiny. I try to remind women that beauty comes from within and that the outward appearance we see will only complement what’s inside.

What do you do to get book reviews? what is the best review you ever got?

I ask for reviews. My followers generally review without being asked. A writer thrives on reviews, especially the constructive reviews because it helps us improve our craft. I have received several 5 star reviews. The best reviews I have received are when a reader has connected with my characters in such a way that they feel lonely without them after the last page. I have had may readers tell me they felt this way at the end of my books.

What does the word “story” mean to you?

The creativity of one’s mind in the written or spoken word.

What are you working on now?

I’m working on several projects concurrently. I am working on the third story in the Where We Left Off series; in this book we find out what happens next with Paul and Khloe, our small town interracial couple who are now engaged to be married. I am also working on a collaboration project with a very talented author. This one will be an urban fiction novel set in Florida. My third project is in its initial creation stage and I am not at liberty to discuss it, but I’m very excited about its possibilities.

Do you have a special time to write or how is your day structured?

I am employed fulltime as a teacher so my days are booked with work, grading papers, etc. I usually save writing until after dinner when the daily routine is finally over. I am a night owl so I’m usually up pretty late.

How do you promote your work? How Quotesrain help you in your book promotions and sales, would you like to refer this platform to your author friends?

As a relatively new author on the scene, I don’t rake in the royalties as some of the more seasoned writers do. Also, as an indie author, I rely on my own resourcefulness to promote my work. I have a street team who promotes for me regularly. I use Facebook, Twitter mostly. Quotesrain’s Free Author Program helps me promote with the book teasers and auto tweets. Keeping it free is a blessing to me.

Would you like to share something with your readers and fan?

I would like to thank my readers and my followers! Without you my writing would not be nearly as much fun for me! Keep in touch with me or subscribe to my webpage!
