Dani Hoots Interview On 25, Jan 2022

"Dani Hoots always loved making stories. She writes science fiction, fantasy, romance, and young adult novels. She also works with Anthill Studios in creating comics through Antik Comics. She enjoys reading, watching anime, cooking, studying different languages, and working with plants."
Where have you spent most of your childhood?

In my head! And in the forest.

What did being an author mean to you as a child? What does it mean to you now?

I always loved making stories, so for me it is letting people see a glimpse of the tales that are in my head and to enjoy them like I do. Now, it is much the same but there is also the business side and wanting to teach people different things such as mythology or history.

What strikes first time visitors as special or unusual when they arrive in Phoenix?

How hot it can be like that scene in Arrested Development. Also the sky is huge here and I love it.

Do you think having a Certificate in Novel Writing from Arizona State University has helped you in your writing career?

It definitely did! I made friends and got to have feedback for my book and help others as well.

How many books do you plan to write in the Queen of the Underworld series?

It is a two-book sequel series to my Daughter of Hades series.

How long did it take you to come up with the character name, Ketsueki?

Not long. I believe I came up with it at a sushi restaurant. I came up with the name before the story.

Have you ever had nightmares like Rebecca does in "The Truth of Honor”?

Most night I have nightmares, so yes.

When starting to write a novel, how did you know what genre you want to write?

I write in a lot of genres and usually I can feel it out, but for some I have to decide and I tend to poll my audience for what they are looking for.

What is your work schedule like when you are writing?

Last year it was crazy. I was working every day and rarely took days off. This year I am making myself take weekends off, especially since it hurt my health a bit and I’m still recovering.

There is a lot of evidence that some herbal medicines do help treat ailments, but they are always shut down by the science community just because the word herb or natural is in the front. Why aren't there more clinical trials for herbs?

There are a lot of clinical trials for herbs, mainly in Europe and other countries. The big thing is there aren’t giant clinical trials due to the lack of funding. People don’t tend to profit for something that is already out there, so to speak.

How can one learn to use a hula hoop? Is it very difficult?

I don’t think so but my partner still can’t hula hoop. I would check out YouTube as I am not good at explaining it, or at least that is what my partner says.

What are some must-read science fiction books that will expand your mind and increase your knowledge?

Anything by Isaac Asimov and Timothy Zahn are really great. Cixin Liu is great, Marie Lu, Brandon Sanderson, Amie Kaufman, and Jay Kristoff are all good too.

What’s the most books you’ve had in your own room?

I have a lot of books, so I have no idea.

What are you currently working on? May we know when we can expect a new book?

I am finishing up the second book of my City of Kaus series and it will be out in March.

What are your thoughts on AllAuthor? Is this a website you see yourself using for sometime even in the future?

I think it is a great site. I hope to utilize it more in the future, but am trying to slowly get back into marketing. There’s a lot that goes into having a writing career that people don’t realize.
