Where were you born? What childhood memories do you cherish the most?
Dandenong, Vic, Australia
At what age did you first learn to read?
can’t remember
What motivated you to turn your writing hobby into a career?
I wouldn’t say it’s a career just yet. I’m still working a regular job full time
What fears did you have while publishing your first book?
acceptance of the story, popularity
Who inspired the character of Cpl Jake North?
no one, or no thing specifically, it was a name I created and he developed from there
What is the significance of the title of your book, Supacar?
it relates to the industry of V* Supercar racing in Australia, (hence the slight change to the spelling of supercar).
How did you come up with the idea of your book, Prissy Duponce: The Story of an Accidental Drag Queen?
that started from hearing a particular song, Candyman by Christina Aguilera(?) and I could imagine a troupe of drag queens performing it
What are some tips for living in Melbourne?
if you decide to live within a 15km radius of the centre of Melbourne, understand how the trams work, whether as a passenger or a driver. There are specific rules that need to be adhered to.
What are some common mistakes that authors make when writing crime fiction?
for me it would be a sense of believability, even though we expect readers to suspend their disbelief for the time they are reading a story
To write a novel of crime fiction, what key things one has to follow to characterize the plot?
whilst I haven’t studied criminology, (and I have probably watched too much crime tv shows), your setting needs to be as accurate as you can make, unless it’s in a completely fictional world. Research is a good thing too, whether that be locational or practical or procedural
How do you create your own universe for a fictional book or fictional book series?
world creation isn’t as easy as people might think. Not only do you need to create a physical place, there are also the rules that govern that place. Societies; religions (if applicable); elements. Whilst the previous would apply to a fantasy/sci-fi environment, if you are setting a fictional story in a real world environment, such as Spiral and Supacar (being set in Melbourne), or Prissy DuPonce (in Melvegas), you need to make sure that everything is as accurate as possible for that real place.
What do you wish you had known when you started out?
all the plots and nuances or the end product
How do you attract new readers? Describe the methods you’ve used and their impact on the number of readers?
working a full time job doesn’t always allow me the chance to do the marketing I should. I try and use what I have to hand, but that doesn’t always seem enough. I also set up my own publishing company to release the books, as I not someone who deals with rejection all that well.
What is the main thing you want readers to take away from your book?
I don’t’ know if I have a specific moral to any of my stories, I want them to enjoy the read. Characters are who they are, and as such the story becomes the focus.
How did you first come across the AllAuthor website? What do you like or dislike about the site?
I don’t recall how I came across it. It may have been an ad banner I saw one day. Again, with little time outside of working, I haven’t spent any great length of time going over the site, so I don’t’ have any specific likes or dislikes.
