It wasn't until I picked up my first Stephen King book (Cujo) as a teen that I realized what I wanted to be when I grew up—unfortunately, I'm still waiting for that to happen so I figured I just better go ahead and do it.
I started out writing romance, then developed a hatred for men (thank you, boyfriends #1 & 2). I switched to horror, at which point I murdered those losers (with words, people, with words!!! But don't take that as an invitation to dig up my backyard, mmmkay?) plus all the others I hadn't met yet but knew I would because I'm a loser magnet. Somewhere along the way I lost my mind and developed a positive view of men again (thank you, hot actors on my favorite TV shows) and then my horror-based stories with a bit of sex turned into sex-based stories with a bit of horror. My friends told me to "go out more" (that's code for "get laid already!"). I think I've found a balance between the two, although I don't "go out more" because now my fictional boyfriends won't let me.
