BIOGRAPHY

Grayer Vaughan is the author of “The Vaughan Chronicles” series, which the first book, “Magnolia Like the Flower” is due out this December with Tate Publishing LLC.

Beginning at 11 years old, Grayer began training in sport Karate as her parents wanted her to be able to defend herself against bullying in school. She began studying under 9th Dan Master Richard Dixon, learning Japanese Goju, which is Taekwondo, Kempo, and Kungfu combined. Over the next 7 years, she earned her blackbelt degree and fought all over the United States defending her regional, and divisional titles as well her right to fight for the State of Texas for her division. She received her first state title at 12 and her first world title at 14, fighting her way up to earn her titles. She is still undefeated and is now a retired World Champion.

After making the decision to retire, Grayer entered college in Austin, Texas, in which her grandfather said, “you have your left foot in the door!” as he wanted for her to continue the family tradition in joining the Armed forces once they became of age. Upon discussing an opportunity to fight in the All-Army karate team, Grayer decided to join the Army to follow in her father’s footsteps. Her grandfather’s reply…”Now you have your right foot in the door!”

After an Army accident, (she got shot by a .50 cal machine gun), she continued to fight for her career as the doctor’s repeatedly told her that she would never walk again. Convinced the doctor’s were wrong, she told them, “You’re not God…You don’t know what I am capable of!” She continued to fight for her career and her right to stay in service for the next 3 years, learning to adapt to her injuries and a new outlook on life. With a service connected injury, she was forced to accept the med board and exited the Army after proudly serving for five years.

Knowing that she could over come any obstacle placed in front of her, she is proud to say that 8 years after she received the diagnosis of paralysis, Grayer is still not paralyzed and continues to fight every day to continue to prove those doctor’s wrong. Although it ended her dream of being in service, Grayer came home to Texas and continued her college education. Education is very important to Grayer as she is a firm believer in taking the opportunity to better yourself.

“There is always an opportunity to continue to grow mentally, spiritually, and physically. They may have tried to push me back, but they will never succeed! I can always get better! Never give up!” ~Grayer Vaughan

According to Grayer, she never intended to become an author. “It happened by answering a “what if” question, and a promise. I was blessed enough to be with my grandfather, Daniel in his last hour here on Earth. He asked what I would do in the next ten years as he wouldn’t be around to experience it with me. I said, “I have no idea, Grampy…I guess I will sell my art…Have a show or write a book? I have no idea!” He replied, “you should do it. I believe in you! Promise me you will do whatever it takes to get it out there.” With the promise made, he passed away a few seconds later. It took 6 months before Grayer decided to honor that promise.

“I didn’t tell anyone or show anyone my work until I was sure I could write…so March 7th, 2012, after a strange dream, I told myself, “I’m going to write a book!” I sat down and wrote 900 pages by hand before I decided to transfer what I had onto a computer and when I was finished with what I was writing it equaled 1532 pages. After a rude invasion of privacy, I was urged to publish it. That is where “The Vaughan Chronicles” began. Everything happened on 7’s, which is my favorite number, so I have a feeling my grandfather must be making sure I make good on my promise. I found out on the 16th of October that Tate Publishing was interested. On my birthday, November 1st, I received a call from an acquisitions editor and on November 7th, I was offered a contract for the first book of my series. It’s all sevens in my book!”

Since then, Grayer has written 14 other books that have yet to be published.
