BIOGRAPHY

Hey, my name is Lizzy and I'm an author, elementary school teacher and a creative writing Grad. student. I started writing mental health blogs for survivors of trauma on the CPTSDFoundation.com and I have written my own personal memoir called: The Sex-Offender's Daughter and a follow up book called "Living with Complex PTSD." Now, I also write emotion-filled fiction narratives in my Cedar's Port series. My books have themes of love, loss, second chances and self-redemption. In the Cedar's Port series, strong characters like Navy veterans face off against murderers, psychotic maniacs and even drug cartels. The little coastal town set in North Carolina has seen it all. What will happen in the fifth book in the series called "Restoring Hope," due in 2025?

      • Hi Peter,

That is a great question and the honest answer is that it depends on how busy my life is juggling work as an elementary teacher and my family life. The first four Cedar's Port books came out quickly one after the other because their stories were mostly written before the first book published. The fifth book: Restoring Hope has taken a lot longer because I've been doing an MFA in writing recently. I'm sorry if the answer wasn't an exact time frame but it really depends on life.

        • Thank you for your thoughtful response, I completely understand how life’s many commitments can shape the pace of writing. Balancing teaching, family, and an MFA is no small feat, and it’s admirable that you continue to create despite it all. I’m always interested in the ways writers share their work with the world, particularly in this evolving landscape. How do you typically promote your books, and have you found anything especially effective when it comes to reaching new readers?

          • Thank you Peter for responding. I appreciate your comments. The marketing of my books has been the hardest. Since I'm a college student (albeit a mature one) I haven't been able to hire anyone to market my books. I've had to do everything myself which I know, is not ideal. My books are still undiscovered. I'm hoping to change that as soon as I have completed my MFA degree.

      • My advice is to keep a notepad and a pen in your pocket or bag. Write down what you see or hear and anything interesting. It might even surprise you what you write!

      • I'm a second grade teacher by day and writer by night. Writing has always been how I destress after work. I'm also juggling my kids and Grad. school in the mix. My days are full.

      • I've always been a writer and kept a journal and a notebook. I've written stories for as long as I can remember. Before I wrote stories, I made little cartoons.

      • I am one of those people who love to write stories. I have written stories all of my life. When I have time I write articles for the ComplexPTSD Foundation about what it is like to live after trauma. I am also working on my 7th manuscript called "Restoring Hope" - it is the next book in my Cedar's Port fiction series.
