      • It's tough to exactly say what inspired me to start. I guess even as a kid, I always had things inside me that I couldn't verbally let out and writing just gave me the option to express those things. I began by writing songs because that came quite naturally to me and then slowly upgraded to poems, short stories, before finally venturing into books. It's been about fifteen years now that I've been writing.

      • Simple words that have deep relevant implications. I think that's the most important aspect of a good written piece. Then subtlety of ideas, how you convey what you're trying to say without pestering the reader with repetitions, without giving a feeling of hamming your point. Also the flow of your piece, the transition between scenarios, and lastly, the relatabilty of your characters. They all are hugely important elements of writing, especially fiction writing.

      • Don't run after deadlines. It's fine to set targets for yourself like daily wordcount or chapter completions but don't fret if you can't consistently achieve them. Writing is an internal process, what you write comes from a space deep within you, and that space isn't always accessible. Give it time, have patience, and write the best you can rather than just putting words on paper just for the sake of it.

      • I would say experience rather than publishing changed my process of writing. But yes, after I published my first book and it didn't turn out to be a success I re-evaluated my concepts of storytelling, made alterations to the way I used proses, changed the dimensions of my characters, but the process remained largely the same. If anything changed in the process then it was that I became more patient, didn't hurry to finish my work and let it out to the world. But again, this was more because of experience than the fact of publishing.

      • Actually I find it easier to write of the opposite sex. In two of my previous three books the protagonists were females and I'm again writing a female MC for my next. Maybe it's because women have had a tremendous influence on my life. I grew up observing my mother and my aunts and then, as I got older, had the chance to observe a few other women as well and I found all of them to be fascinating. The layers and complexities of a woman's mind can be a treasure trove for a character point of view if one can make an attempt at unravelling it.

      • When I start writing a book I always have the beginning and the end in mind but invariably have no idea what happens in the middle, say the latter part of act one, the entire act two, and the start of act three. I'm a pantser and don't plot or outline and so writing the middle part that carries forward what I have established in the opening and leads to the conclusion that I have in mind is the most difficult aspect of my process. Also, naming my characters. I find it really difficult to do that.

      • I would like to believe that I can take constructive criticism, so if a bad review comes my way and it has something constructive to say in it then I'll keep it in mind and better my writing. And as for good reviews, I make sure that I repost it to as many places as I can!

      • Yes I have. Quite a few times, in fact. The thing with writer's block is that everybody has a different way of coping with it. You just have to figure out what works for you, what will help you the most to come out of it. The way I deal with it is by just letting it be. I don't go out of my way to fight it. I do other things. Watch movies, read other people's stuff, and wait for the inspiration to come back, and it invariably does. The key for me when it comes to writer's block is to have patience and to keep your trust in your talent.

      • Most times, especially if you are publishing independently, the cover, title, and the blurb is what will sell your book. It has to be fancy and catch the eye of your potential readers. Nobody would know how well you write or how interesting the story is that you're telling unless they read your book and to make them do that you need to attract them to your book and this is where the cover and the title and the blurb becomes the most important thing. You have to make them your USP if you want your book to fare even decently.
