  - I write on weekends only, sometimes on both days, and I don't have any word count goals. The work gets done over time and I can usually complete a novel in about a year.

  - I really don't know, although when I attempted to write an old-fashioned seafaring in the style of the great age-of-sail novelists, a couple of readers compared e to Patrick O'Brien, which was very gratifying.
