BIOGRAPHY

S. E. Shinault discovered her passion for storytelling as an awkward seventh-grader when she was inspired to pen her first novel. She’s been writing her heart out ever since. She loves writing about rebel underdogs, expansive conflicts, and spacefaring escapades, sometimes with underlying theological themes to reflect her Christian faith.

Her debut novel, The Rending, was published December of 2023, a mere two months after giving birth to her first child. The book was well received by readers from all walks of life, and was featured on Reedsy Discovery’s science fiction category for seven months.

When not working on her bookish undertakings, she can often be found geeking out over her favorite movies and TV shows, reading, dabbling in photography, playing video games, sketching, or composing tunes at the piano. If she's not otherwise occupied, she's definitely daydreaming about her next book.

She currently lives in sunny California with her hardworking husband and is a stay-at-home mom to her energetic 1-year-old daughter.

      • I've been writing since I was old enough to understand the words and concepts that make up a story. But I didn't start taking writing seriously until I was twelve. I was very into video games at that time, and I played a particular game that inspired my first "real" book. That story has evolved a lot since then, and I hope to one day get it published.

      • In my personal opinion, relatable and dynamic characters. If I'm unable to relate to a character, especially the main character, then I have a hard time getting invested in the story as a whole. Make me care about the character(s), and I'll more than likely enjoy the book.
