Intriguing story
Elara Dunlin has to move from chilly Maine to sweltering Texas right before her senior year in high school. If that wasn’t challenging enough, add in some mean girls, a new friend she keeps having strange reactions around and a mysterious man with piercing blue eyes who seems to be stalking her. Soon, the man reveals to her a secret about herself, her past and her family. Elara will need to to make a life altering decision ... continue living the life she’s had for 18 years or leave the only family she’s ever known to become the person she’s destined to be.I really enjoyed this book. A mix of sci-fi and fantasy, it captured me from the beginning. Elara is a smart and witty young girl. She shares my level of sarcasm, so naturally I appreciated her character. Cyrus and Jax were also great, but Elara is my favorite. The writing was very good for a debut in a series. The pacing was great and the storyline and characters kept me intrigued. This book does have a lot of backstory for the subsequent novels, but I was perfectly okay with that. It sets you up for the remainder of the series and I entered into reading this knowing it was not a standalone novel. The only odd thing in the writing, was the quotations around the inner monologue, but J.M. has happily informed me that doesn’t occur in the remaining books. I’ve already ordered the second one, and I’m sure the third will follow. And i’m totally a Lunin

This story took me by surprise. I've been wanting to read it since a year ago, and oh boy, it was such a great read!

We meet this very normal teenage girl, Elara, living her normal life with her parents until they move from Maine to Houston, where she meets the attractive popular guy at her high school, Cyrus, and a young man who has been following her since the day she arrived.

A series of incidents begin happening to her as she reaches her 18 years old. Elara notices the new reactions in her body, especially when she's around Cyrus. (NO, it isn't what you're thinking!)

Everything unfolds for her when she finally and formally meets her mysterious and handsome stoker Jax, who conveys her the truth of her origins. This discovery will shift her perception of life as she decides to accept her new traits and allows Jax to train her on her new powers. Now, she needs to tell Cyrus about their secret connection and how they're related to each other, no matter how crazy it may sound.

Between a Lunin and a Solin, Elara will have to choose staying on Earth or returning to Aroonyx, where she belongs, and assume her mission to save her own people.
I hate to spoil this awesome story, so I'll shut up, but be sure that every chapter you read will be a delicious bite.

I loved Buckler's writing style. It's accessible, well crafted, and easy going. I especially liked the shifts between events and places which felt very natural, and the descriptions were in their sweet spot without becoming a nuisance (you know how I hate long descriptions). I found the author's voice unique and fresh, and the pace was perfect. I didn't find myself bored or crawling between the pages in despair. I other words, I was so engaged with it all!

You'll find the characters very believable. Buckler did a great job crafting their personalities as she showed through Elara and Cyrus's actions, emotions, and thoughts their personal traits instead of having someone telling what they were. However, I'd have loved to know more about Cyrus's life, but I understand that the story was from Elara's point of view.

Also, it was very thoughtful to have a teenage character thinking compassionately towards her parents and being considerate about them. Finally! This should be an example for the common troops of teenage characters seeing their parents as total annoying people who never understand their drama.

I can't wait to dive into the second book, Stillness of Time, and find the answers to all the questions in my head about the three characters and their adventures.
Seeker of Time deserves a 4.8 stars review!

SERIES REVIEW: The Seeker of Time series is fantastic!! First and foremost, I love the way J.M. writes. I can envision everything taking place perfectly. There are never any moments in the entire series where I felt like I didn’t have a vivid view of all the characters, the scenery, and the emotion of everyone involved. I'd say the first book sets the scene for the rest of the series. I loved the concept in the first book and liked the characters, but I felt my love for the series was skin deep until I read book two!!! Book two was my favorite of the entire series. I fell utterly in love with every single character, all for different reasons. Each character has a unique story, and they all come together so perfectly. JM Buckler is brilliant y'all!

There are some tough moments to read in this book, but I love it. The authenticity of J.M.'s writing is on point. A sure-fire way to upset me in a book is to have an evil villain and his deadly cronies who walk around feared by all who never get their hands dirty. I like real and raw writing. People get hurt in war; blood is shed by good people sometimes, that is real. J.M. doesn't fear putting her characters through hell, and I am all about it!

Nothing I expected to happen in the book happened the way I anticipated, and I love to be surprised. I read through the serious pretty quickly. I had to keep turning the page. I don't know if I have ever had such a bad book hangover. I love the characters so much, and I absolutely can't wait for her new book to come out!!

I picked up this book after I had come to know J.M.Buckler through her Insta stories and becoming interested in the world and stories she spoke of when reverencing her work.

Going into the book with both the knowledges hat it is a debut novel and with high expectations non the less these are my thoughts.

The beginning both managed to capture my attention and intrigue me to keep reading and confronted me with a few ... clumsy passages (some repetitive phrasing or weird was do describe simple things).

I immediately felt a kinship to the main character of Elara — there were multiple occasions were my brain went “Omg, SAME!!” and I can also tell, that some of those notions and opinions probably stem from J.M. herself and it just gives the characters an even more authentic and real feeling to them.

Generally I would say that the book is fairly fast paced and easy to get into. I also didn’t experience any points in which I felt inclined to put down the book and not take it up again to continue reading.
(I finished it in two evenings.)

Some bits are fairly predictable, especially if one likes to read books in the genre - because let’s be fair fantasy books all *kind of* follow the same pattern.

The way the story plays out and the way the sequel is set up (!) is quite smart and feels really natural.

My only concern would be that sometimes I felt like characters unnecessarily spelled out conclusions I could have drawn on my own but considering that ist is YA (if I’m nit completely mistaken) it’s target-audience-appropriate in that way. This doesn’t mean older readers can’t enjoy it as well — I did, and I’m technically older ;)

I’m excited to continue this series, especially as I understand that the sequels get even better.

    Solid book. Can recommend.
For anyone who likes stories about superpowers and discovering special abilities in High School settings.
And maybe a little bit of romance because there is definitely some exceptional book-boyfriend-material (and even I can say this as a very gay lesbian reader xD)

    Enjoy! —nora

My first encounter with this book was an audio book. J.M. Buckler does the audio book herself and I found I couldn't stop listening to it. Naturally, I purchased the paperback version of this book to keep in my home library and I read it again when it arrived. This book is fantastic. A great YA book that I was hooked on from the beginning. The characters are unique and intriguing each bringing their own set of characteristics to the table. The ending left me on the edge of my seat immediately grasping for the next book in the series. So glad I read this book and found this author! A must read if you are into YA fantasy.

I had the pleasure of listening to this book on Audible, narrated by the author. Her voice! It was a fulfilling experience to hear the story told to me, and told so well. Seeker of Time is a debut novel and it radiates all the freshness and vitality that only a well written First can have.

The three protagonists are diverse in character yet all connected, all relatable in their own unique ways. The story rips along... a real page-turner.

I found myself back in high school one moment, immersed in classes, worried about boys and the brunt of popular girls' sarcasm. The next moment I'm embracing a higher purpose, drawn into another planet's destiny, one that make existence a matter of life and death.

Full of well orchestrated contrasts between the ordinary and the supernatural, I cheered loudly for Elara and I think you will too.

    And that ending?

I know only one thing for sure: As soon as I post this review, I'm off to buy the next book in the series.

4.5 out of 5. A most excellent debut novel.

    I really enjoyed this book!

It hade some grate caricatures I found funny and mysterious.

I also loved the details the author put in about there surrounding it really helped me feel like I was there.

I purchased the book but I also listened to the audio book that is read but the author and realy enjoyed it. There were some parts the conversation didn’t really flow right but these are issues she has spoken about on her Instagram and has made steps to improve in her new books!

Definitely recommend this book and I will be getting the next book in the series x
