“ Come on out lass," he whispered, “your ma won't ever forgive you, so you'd best be on your way."
Claudia was so shocked at what her pa was saying; she just sat in a daze. Where would she go, she thought, this was her home, these were her parents. Why was this happening? She'd taken her punishment, wasn't that enough?
“I don't understand Pa," she cried, in between gulps of the water, “I have nowhere to go. Please don't make me leave. I'll stay in the cupboard a bit longer if you like. I'm so scared Pa."
