By the darkness of the house, and on hearing Vicki's cries, Robert had a foreboding feeling that something was amiss in his home. Without even bothering to take off his snow-covered coat, he tossed his hat aside and raced up the stairs to Vicki's nursery, hoping that Ruby would be there too. Taking the stairs three at a time, he was met by a black wall of darkness and the uncontrollable sobs from Vicki. "There, there little one, stop that crying now."
His words of comfort failed...........
