Bill McLaughton is a US military waist gunner. He has a persistent problem with a nightmare. Will he ever figure out what the nightmare means? In the meantime, he is assigned to an RAF bomber base in Polebrook, England. He is nineteen years old, and he was born and raised in the United States in Greenfield, Indiana. He has had a rather uninteresting life, but that is about to change.
