With the sleeping baby wrapped in her blanket and covered with Amy's stained, calico apron, she now looked more like a bundle of dirty laundry. Amy felt trapped and vulnerable, knowing that if anyone should return to the bedroom now, she would be cornered and in grave trouble. She hurried through the hallway and took the back staircase, praying that she'd not bump into any of the staff.
