Apolline, a French lawyer, and her Australian husband, Parry, an art provenance expert, live in Annecy, France, with their twin sons plus Apolline’s daughters Eglantine and Magali from her first marriage. Commissaire Léon Favre (head of Annecy’s gendarmerie) enlists Apolline and Parry as unofficial investigators to help solve the disappearance of a valuable bronze sculpture. The group, ‘Network of Spiders’, is threatening to destroy the artwork unless legislation to allow construction of a high-altitude dam in the Swiss Alps is reversed.Network of Spiders follows Apolline and Parry as they uncover a web of intrigue involving eco-activism, herbicides, electronic tracking devices, bronze-age treasure and a reclusive museum owner. Exacerbated by climate change, a super storm sweeps across the Franco-Swiss Alps, pushing Apolline, Parry and Magali to their physical limits in a race against time to find not only the sculpture but also a cache of Celtic artefacts.
Network of Spiders reprises characters who appear in the art mysteries, It Happened Tomorrow (2013) and ‘Tis the Doing Not the Deed (2018).
