“The romance between Cassy and Jason is honest and fresh...making this sizzling novel one not to miss out on.” – RT BOOK REVIEWS
Lady Cassandra Spathe is the darling of London ballrooms. But when she believes she’s accidently killed an objectionable suitor, she’s forced to flee England. To get free passage to the American Colonies, she signs Articles of Indenture, confident a friend in Boston will redeem the cost. After a torturous voyage, the ship lands in York, Virginia, instead of Boston, and a defeated Lady Cassandra is sold on the deck of the ship. A tag around her neck proclaims her to be Cassy Spade, seamstress.
Her buyer, Jason Anders, is a former transported convict who was himself indentured. Since his release, Jason has become a wealthy ironmaster and now aspires to become a gentleman. He purchases Cassy’s indenture as much for the polish he thinks she can give him as her sewing ability.
Fascinated from the first by the feisty young woman, Jason works hard to ignore her allure. He’s made fair treatment of indentured servants the cornerstone of his campaign for the Virginia House of Burgesses and knows any attempted seduction could put his political future at risk.
For her part, Cassy is bewildered by her attraction to a man she’s been taught is beneath her. She’s captivated by Jason’s drive to improve himself and his situation. His untrammeled masculinity fills her with longing instead of disgust.
When these two opposites unite, combustion is inevitable. Theirs is a passion as raw as the land they live in.
