Grace saw him first. She dates only the wealthiest men she can entice with her style and beauty, and insists they show how much they appreciate the privilege by lavishing her with expensive gifts. However at thirty, she is tired of these men often being so much older and demanding of her time. She drinks and parties convincing herself she is having fun, until she meets the wealthiest and handsomest man she ever laid eyes on.
Bette tried to resist. The thirty year old church going virgin is Grace's best friend since high school. She admires her friends confidence but disapproves of Grace's whorish behavior. Bette has dreams of falling deeply in love and marrying before all the good men are taken. She meets Jackson and he immediately makes up his mind to pursue her, though she objects, she realizes he is getting into her heart.

After meeting Bette, and a few casual dates with Grace, he becomes more than interested in Bette and makes up his mind he will capture and keep her affections. Even though he knows the women are best friends and that Bette is just starting a romance. Her objections to his advances only fuel the fire of his growing desire.
