Born illegitimate in north east England in 1944, I was sent to my father's parents in western Ireland. My parents later married and I was brought back to England when I was nine, and was continually beaten and battered by my father, calling me a bastard, throughout my teenage years. Surviving on my memories of Ireland, my trust in my Catholic faith, the help of kind people and relatives, and my love of chemistry, I went through major crises, feeling lost and alone in 1960s England and Scotland, I took on challenges, fought back against despair, and struggled with my growing awareness of my gay identity under legal intolerance. But determined to find a better life I went to university and finally to America.
This is a story of surviving against the odds.
BIOGRAPHY I'm retired from a long and interesting life. I'm writing about it, gardening and propagating perennial flower plants, thinking and contemplating the world we live in, always curious, tweeting about advances on the frontiers of science, medicine, and astronomy.
Take a look at my plants from past years. https://fineartamerica.com/artists/john+fahey
This year of 2018 I have about 140 snapdragon seedlings ready for planting outside by April.
I am an optimistic person, always looking for a silver lining in the darkest cloud.
You could see my philosophy at http://www.erinpharm.org and go to my about me page to see the future direction of my writing that will follow my first two memoirs.
I am in awe of the Future.
My motto: Stand up, look up, look out, see the wonder.
