Praise for the book
From younger readers:
"Great read! (CY, 13)
"It was seriously creepy! But some of the stories were funny as well. I'm telling my friends to read it…" (JW, 12)
"I raced to the end." (LP, 14)
"I want to read more!" (NB, 12)
From adults
"Reminded me of the old Tales from the Crypt comics I read as a kid. Brilliant stuff." (PG, 51)
"I loved 'Basement Tales' so thought I'd get this one for my children (11 and 13) but ended up reading it myself before I passed it on to them. Just as creepy as the 'adult' stuff, and they loved it too!" (MB, 44)
"My kids are really picky about what they read, but they really enjoyed the dark humour and wanted to read more as soon as they'd finished it." (CH, 38)
"An excellent read for younger readers - little in the way of gore and no swearing but some seriously eerie stuff: after we'd both read it we talked about our favourites, and it was interesting to see the differences in what we thought was most scary/ funny...!" (NN, 42)
From the author:
I wrote the first two stories in this collection for my nephews aged 9 and 11 for Halloween 2018 based on five prompts they gave me. They liked the stories so much they've been giving me prompts since and asking for more...'Cellar Stories.' is the result of that. I've written the stories thinking about the stories I read when I was about ten: comics from the '70s like Action, Weird Tales and Eerie. Other stories are inspired by the things I loved as I got more into horror, science fiction and fantasy - the Pan Books of Horror, Tales of the Unexpected, Ray Bradbury and Robert Bloch...and then others still are the legacy of watching horror films and tv series like the Twilight Zone, Armchair Thriller and Hammer House of Horror.
Some of the stories are scary; some are funny. There's something for a range of ages - and stories inspired from decades of loving the spooky and the strange.
