Glimpses in Time: A Collection of Memoirs and More.
We all have moments and memories that stay with us and are easily triggered by a word, a song, or a familiar smell. These brief instances and recollections take us to another time, perhaps a happy time or maybe a sad time. "Glimpses in Time" is a collection of 25 of these moments which may possibly bring you back to your own unforgettable moments.
Following is a review of "Glimpses in Time.". This book of memories has everything. It starts with a dry humor story about camping but you quickly learn that the person who goes camping as an adult was also a child who experienced loss, abuse and abandonment. Barbara Godin writes beautifully... her words so stark but so moving you feel the pain, the anxiety and the desperation of the child that I just wanted to hug her and make everything better. Having said that, we see from other stories in the book that the author grows up to be a resilient, empathetic and forgiving person who is determined not to repeat the mistakes she experienced as a child but not without the lovable pets she has had over the years! There is a story or memory for everyone in Barbara’s book. There are grandmother stories, pet stories, “new love” stories and memories of grief. Like any book of short stories you can pick up this book, put it down and then pick it back up but the sheer heartfelt memories, poems and short fictional stories made me want to read the autobiography the author teases at the end of the book. I highly recommend this book.
Also included are a few works of fiction and poetry . The fiction stories could have been grabbed from the headlines of your daily newspaper or crime show.
"Glimpses in Time" ends with the first chapter of Barbara Godin's unpublished autobiography. "Can I Come Home now?" an intense and moving story of a dysfunctional family living through the fifties and sixties. The story is told as seen through the eyes of an abandoned and abused young girl who survived, and was ultimately able to overcome the scars of her past.
Glimpses in Time is a relatable story as we have all experienced the pain of loss and the victory of overcoming.
