First came the desecration, then the terror!
It happened in the not-too-distant past, in a kingdom famous for her beautiful arts as much as her blood sacrifices, the city of blood, Benin Country where the Olokun god reigned supreme.
Either side of the violation of Benin Country lurked the tragic mystery of the beautiful and innocent Ivieka.
Set in the old African Kingdom of Benin and modern Lagos, Ivieka tells the story of the invasion and desecration of a people’s oldest and most sacred place and the theft of a crown jewel destined never to leave her ancestral place. It also tells the beautiful love story of Francis Boyo and Indira Lawson who many years after the audacious rape of Benin, would become entangled in a web spurned by the stolen crown jewel.
Four centuries before the invasion of Benin Kingdom, a Catholic priest, Father Cristóvão Luís had been sent to Benin Country by Portugal on what was both a religious and political mission. Father Luís was privileged to have a glimpse of the tragedy destined to come but the Portuguese did not get the chance to warn the world. In his short romance with Ivieka, he had his senses and strength immobilized by forces stronger and more powerful than he could ever imagine. The only snippets left behind by the priest after his passing were meaningless writings in a little black book that no one could decipher.
In those myriads of meaningless codes was a mystery that must be unraveled if the world is to be saved from a danger that could portend the end of humanity.
The codes would remain meaningless, the rantings of a mad monk, for centuries, until Ben Kadi, a daring high school student, stole the little black book.
Then comes Francis Boyo, a young poetic lawyer who thought he finally has the world at his feet. A good job, status, money beyond his wildest imagination and the most beautiful woman the world has seen. His world would suddenly turn upside down when the life of this most beautiful woman, their future and everything they held dear become dangerously imperiled.
In a difficult race against time, Francis Boyo must find the ancient diary of Father Cristóvão Luís and decode his last sermon.
But the keys to the sermon are at the heart of the ocean deeps, in the head of a mad monk long cremated and buried.
