The ancient wisdom of the Forest People says that humanity's mages of yore were arrogant. At war with a mighty race of giants called the Nephilim and searching for a means to upset the balance of power, they schemed an assault on heaven itself. Their plan- to capture one of God's chosen, hold it for ransom, and use its incredible power to vanquish the Nephilim from their land. It was a plot that tempted heaven's wrath and a good smiting to be sure, but against all odds, the mages were successful and ushered forth the dawn of a human age.
Now, after a millennium of grandeur, the cocksure mages' memory dims, and cracks form in the prison walls. A long civil war has sapped the might of Vesper the Uniter, and the emperor's long reign will soon come to an end amongst an unknown succession. During this moment of weakness, the Nephilim wake again, sensing a moment of transition is upon the land. They amass their powerful army in the dark periphery bent on exacting vengeance and will stop at nothing to wipe humanity from existence.
But, in the lazy streets of Grafton Notch, a colony on the fringe of the Empire, a bit of mischief, a mysterious stranger, and a powerful gift launches the young Erikson Gray onto a path to greatness. He, along with his allies, must journey far and suffer much to uncover the land's mysteries and rediscover how their ancestors managed to harness heaven's power to conquer the Nephilim. In the process, Erik will discover that his fate may be more than just being a blacksmith's apprentice, but only if he can surmount his dark past, resist the taint that resides in his blood, and choose his counsel wisely.
Will young Erik pass these tests to bring the dawn of a second human age, or is it time for the true stewards of the land to punish the trespassers and again ascend their throne? Find out.
