Like most of Bridgeport, Connecticut's Black community in the 1970's, the Huntsville family migrated from the south, looking for a better way of life. While Mason and Eleanor Huntsville were working hard to make ends meet, their three children were being influenced by the streets like so many others. That included their only daughter, Eva Mae. After the untimely death of her father, Eva Mae becomes a stripper at the age of seventeen. After a failed relationship with the son of an evil Mob Boss, she is left as a single mother to raise her bi-racial son named Jovan. Along with another family secret that burns deep inside of her soul, Eva Mae still manages to change her life by both getting married and "Giving her life to Christ." She also gives birth to two more children who along with eight year old Jovan is left to mourn after her tragic death.
Now living with his grandmother and watching his uncles and family friend Billy Brown thrive in the drug business, Jovan starts selling drugs at a young age. Suddenly, his role models become his equals and despite his wealth and popularity, Jovan remains oblivious to the identity of his father. Meanwhile, there is always a price to pay for his lifestyle and sooner or later, all family secrets must come out.
