BIOGRAPHY I worked as a probation officer and then a child protection officer. I was ordained as an Anglican priest in my late fifties but continued to work in child protection. As a priest I was non-stipendiary, not paid by the Church.
This is the base from which I wrote my two latest books, Sacred Memoirs of a Retired Failure and the sequel The Resurrected. About the Rev Doug Spencer who retires very disillusioned from his ministry, shortly after the death of his wife of 43 years, Mary.
He is lonely and adopts Ruby, a golden retriever and tries to write his autobiography as he had promised Mary. He meets a lady who lets him down. Sacred Memoirs of a Retired Failure is about Doug’s adventures in retirement and the people he meets. Eventually starting a shelter for the homeless.
The Resurrected continues his adventures. He marries another lady and becomes a television celebrity. The reader follows him through tears and laughter.
Many of the characters in these two books are based on people I knew in my work and my experiences as a priest.
Previous books:
Holy Inadequate by Andrew H Rea - my autobiography.
Spies and Scoundrels - two novellas by A.N. Drew (one about how England may look in 2026 as the corrupt government plan to kill off the over 80s in residential homes to save money. The second is the danger of a nuclear war emanating from North Korea, possibly predicted in Bible Codes which speak of the rise of Adolf Hitler and Yasser Arafat).
Sacred Memoirs of a Retired Failure by A.N. Drew
The Resurrected by A.N. Drew
There is a good possibility that The Resurrected will be developed into a television miniseries.
