Book Overview
Surrey, England - 1875
Trapped in an abusive and loveless marriage, Emma Dobson’s plans to escape are cut short after another violent altercation with her ruthless husband. Terrified that her life is in danger, Emma flees to the safety of Nightingale Hall with her two children, seeking the help and support from Squire Nicholson.
Emma is soon befriended by one of the housemaids at Nightingale Hall, who, after overhearing a shocking revelation, recommends that Emma should run away before she is questioned and wrongly accused. In a state of distress and confusion, Emma allows Myra to lead her on a journey to London, assuring her of her safety in the crowded City.
The family’s new life, in an East End slum, is a stark contrast to what they’ve been used to and Emma lives in constant fear of being discovered.
Desperate to find a way of paying for her lodgings and living expenses, her search for a means to provide proves challenging when paranoia compels her to hide in the shadows, constantly looking over her shoulder.
A chance meeting with the infamous Captain Rufus O’Sullivan marks the beginning of a unique relationship, and although Emma soon realises that she is developing feelings towards him, her calamitous circumstances restrain her from becoming better acquainted with the handsome Captain.
As Emma’s difficulties and heart-breaking afflictions increase, her determination to keep her family safe and united soon becomes even more burdensome, and she finds herself sinking into an even worse state of desperation.
Emma’s Plight is a powerful and emotional tale with many unexpected twists and shocks. Emma’s strength is rooted in her unwavering love and devotion for her children. She risks everything to protect them, proving how a mother's courage and unconditional love knows no bounds.
BIOGRAPHY Wife, Mother, Grandma, and Author. Family always comes first. I was born in London where I spent my early childhood. From a young age, I always had a passion for reading, writing stories and poetry. With maturity my interest in history blossomed, especially for the Victorian era; it was a period in history that saw so much change and an abundance of new and life-changing inventions and laws, making it such an interesting era to study. With a lifelong ambition to become an author, it was after a long pause whilst raising my family in Oxfordshire, that I finally found the time and brain space to put pen to paper and begin.
My debut novel, May of Ashley Green was published in February 2017. I have since published a further twelve novels and continue to write. Turning my passion into a fulfilling career as a professional author has proved a most rewarding achievement.
My strong passion for writing and keen interest in history, especially the Victorian Era, has influenced me to engage wholeheartedly in writing historical fiction/romance/mystery. I love engaging with the projects I work on, diving headfirst into the research, investigation, and production of stories that I feel are worth writing about, and will prove entertaining to an audience intrigued by this genre. I am a dedicated writer and aim to preserve as much authenticity as possible when delving into the past.
