    • This story explores the adage "you can choose your friends but not your family". Do you believe that blood is thicker than water and that we should love our families, no matter how they behave? Or should family earn our love and respect, much as our friends do?
      Theo is the complete opposite to Maisie. How do you feel about the saying "opposites attract"? Or do you think relationships work better when the couple have more commonalities?
      At the end of the novel, something rather special is revealed about the tea set. Did you see this coming? How do you feel about the parallels between Maisie gathering the tea set together and her family coming back into her life as she does so?
      What did you think of the auction house as a setting for the novel? Would this make you more inclined to attend an auction? Did you learn things about auctions that you didn't know before?
