I think schools should offer a variety of genres for kids to read in school. So many times children lose interest in reading, not because they don't like reading, only they don't like the subject matter. Children should be encouraged to read what grabs them, not what the teacher forces them to read.
Going through the publishing process you learn a lot about what you need to do to be successful. How you need to promote. Even before you publish a book, you should be out there promoting.
