I think e-books, apps, and devices that allow people to read e-books have really changed not only the way we read, but what we read. Before e-books, it was really hard to not only self-publish, but also to market a self-published book. Now, it's much easier to publish a book and reach a wider audience. It's really changed the publishing game and allowed more people to get their books out into the world without the need to cater to a specific vision from a large publishing company.
That said, I have friends who refuse to make the switch to e-books, and I can certainly understand their reasoning, but I like e-books because they're much easier to pack for a vacation!
I knew I wanted to be a writer as a child, and I had planned to go to college to pursue a degree in creative writing. But then, life happened, and I went on a different path. I still wrote, but not for a career.
I reconnected with my love of writing in 2020, right before the pandemic happened. I decided to take advantage of the additional free time I had when I started working from home full time and pursued an MFA. The goal was initially to fulfill a promise I made to my mom. Now that I've done that, I am exploring other genres. While I plan to continue to pursue my writing and publishing career, I have no plan to quit my day job as it's actually something I enjoy. Writing regulations is still writing, and I love the challenge.
