    • Hi there, I always find it enriching to hear from fellow authors. Personally, my writing journey started with a deep fascination for 1920s Berlin. It led me to create Gereon Rath and the world around him. What inspired you to start writing?

        • It’s wonderful to hear how storytelling has been part of your life since childhood. For me, the fascination with history and stories grew over time, I wrote my first novel, The Silent Death, in 2007, after years of working in film and studying history. Like you, I drew inspiration from the past and the stories people around me shared.

            • I wrote my first book in the early 90's. My son who is 33 now, was a baby. I would put him in his car-seat and drive around until he fell asleep. Then I would park behind my daughter's school and write by hand in notebooks until she got out of school for the day. It was a long, rocky road to publishing.

              • That’s an incredible image, you in the car, pen in hand, your son sleeping beside you, waiting for your daughter, and in those quiet moments, building a world of your own on the page. There’s something deeply moving and powerful about that kind of dedication. You weren’t just writing stories, you were carving out space for your voice in the midst of life’s daily demands.

The fact that you kept going, even when the road was rocky, says everything about your love for storytelling. Publishing might have taken time, but the persistence you showed, that matters just as much as the book itself.

Do you still write by hand, or have your habits changed over the years?

                        • Also, I hope you don’t mind me mentioning this, but I noticed the book has a relatively low review rating on Amazon, which surprised me given how polished and promising it looks. Have you received any feedback about that? I ask out of genuine interest, as I believe your work deserves more recognition and would love to better understand your experience.

      • Currently I'm working on making all of my books available in audio so people can listen if they want. I'm also working on the next book in my Beyond Cedar Cove series, Shattered. I hope to have it completed by the end of the year, early next year at the latest.

        • It’s definitely a great thing having an audio version of one’s book, it opens the door for so many more readers (or listeners!) to enjoy the story.

I’m currently revising and editing some projects myself, so I know how much focus it takes. How are you managing the balance between the audio production and writing the new book?

      • I've always wanted to write. For the longest time, I wrote beginnings of what I hoped would be books, but they just sat, unfinished. Growing up, my family would talk about life. And I'd listen. They told of one of their neighbors who punished his kids by holding them over a water well, threatening to drop them inside. It intrigued me.
One night, I had a dream about a young boy, around ten years old, walking along the dirt road of a farm. In the background were fields of corn and tobacco and way off in the distance was a water well, looking small and insignificant. I woke up knowing who he was. I knew his name, his family and the names of his neighbors.

That became my first book, Todd. Originally, it was going to be the only one, but Todd's family's story grew into six books, The Cedar Cove Chronicles. And now I'm working on the follow up series, Beyond Cedar Cove. Characters have grown from children to adults, and gotten into all sorts of situations.

            • Hi Cynthia,

Thank you for considering the Reedsy Discovery Pick option! I completely understand your budget constraints and appreciate your honesty.

As we're approaching the festive season, we're offering a special opportunity for authors to promote their books. With more people reading and gifting books during this time, it's an ideal chance to increase visibility and reach new readers.

Would you be interested in letting us run a small promotional campaign for your book during the festive season? This could help you gain some extra exposure and momentum, and then we could revisit the main campaign at the end of January as planned.

Let me know if this sounds like something you'd be interested in, and we can discuss the details further.

              Best regards,
              Lisa Deborah

Take care of yourself and your family first. We can revisit the conversation about promoting your book when your situation improves. You're not alone, and I'm here to support you whenever you're ready.
