About this ebook

Could she ever love the unrepentant rake who won her in a wager?

He didn’t gamble on losing his heart when he won her at the gaming tables.

Pierce, Earl of Wainthorpe has finally thwarted his worst enemy. Except, he can’t revel in his victory after winning his foe’s ward in a winner-takes-all wager. If Pierce refuses to assume Bianca Salisbury’s guardianship, the fiery-haired beauty with a matching temper may very well find herself sold to the highest bidder.

The shameful secret she guards makes it impossible to love a rogue.

Desperate to escape her blackguard cousin, Bianca Salisbury ventures to London to find a husband or employment. Instead, she’s bartered to a notorious rakehell. She either risks being compromised and accepts The Earl of Wainthorpe’s protection or flees him and her guardian. But without money and a place to go, she fears she’ll face the same tragic fate as her mother.

To protect Bianca from her cousin, Pierce spirits her to his secluded country estate. Neither he nor Bianca is prepared for their growing attraction and both dread the day he returns to London while she remains in hiding. Can Pierce persuade a wary Bianca to trust a reformed rogue, or does he depart, leaving his heart and love behind?

An innocent woman of no means, at her cousin's mercy. A rich earl, a rogue of mixed blood. Greed and a game of chance bring Pierce and Bianca together. What a game and what a wager! An entertaining historical read. Depicts women's worth in this period. The lead characters were good, though the rest of the cast stole the show, ie. Pierce's friends, sisters and staff! 3 1/2 stars. Voluntarily read ARC for honest review.

The EARL OF WAINTHORPE, Pierce Chamberlain, was at last going to vanquish his life-long enemy: Bertram Normand, Baron of Fairfax. Twenty years it had been since Pierce vowed to have his revenge, and Fairfax, already in debt to his eyeballs, was about to lose it all. However, Pierce had not anticipated becoming the guardian of the fetching Bianca Salisbury, Fairfax’s niece, which the villain threw in, along with his other “assets”. Pierce didn’t trust Fairfax to behave honourably, so he demanded that Fairfax signed papers so that worse wouldn’t come to Bianca. Bianca is shocked; she doesn’t want to follow Pierce – his reputation as a rake precedes him – besides, she does not want to endure another guardian, but she has no choice; she is not yet of age. Pierce could think of many things he would like to do with Bianca, who truly amuses him, but he is not going there; she must be protected, even from himself. Pierce is a welcome change from our usual rakes and rogues; he is half-Indian, and it had largely determined how he chose to live his life. Both Pierce and Bianca have extremely interesting backstories, and more in common than they would ever have suspected; she being a poor relation, and he a wealthy earl. The EARL OF WAINTHORPE is more subdued than what we are used to from Collette Cameron, but just as interesting. The author’s prose is, as always, very evocative; the banter between Pierce and his three sisters quite delightful, as are the exchanges between friends Wainthorpe, Pembroke, and Benton; all earls. The EARL OF WAINTHORPE is overall a light story, with dark undertones, and the romance is lovely as Pierce must behave himself, and realises it was exactly the way he should have gone about to find love. I voluntarily reviewed an advanced reader copy of this book.

Part of the Wicked Earl's Club series. I enjoyed this story. I fell in love with Pierce along with Bianca. Despite his public personna, Pierce was a man after my own heart. The romance between them was as sweet as could be, and he truly cared about her future. I like Bianca's fortitude and acceptance of her circumstances. I loved this book, highly recommend it, and look forward to more of the Wicked Earls. I received a copy of this story as a gift, and this is my unsolicited review.
